Just saw Jim Gaffigan at this facility and all I can say is what a mistake it was to have an event here... this was so badly planned. Even the local businesses were not ready for the amount of people attending this event. Traffic was a nightmare, parking was ridiculous and only one entrance at the facility... Never again...

The sports centre has a large arena for hockey games and an ice skating rink which also offers stick and puck drop in sessions. The staff at the pro shop was friendly and it's where you can get ice related merchandise and rent your ice skates. Drop in rates are especially cheap for UBC students, a must go if you've never tried ice skating before and are in the area.

This arena is not too big that although I sat at the last row of the arena, I could see figure skaters very clearly. (It was a bit too far for good photos though for exhibitions in the dark). The arena was nice and clean. It is easy to access by bus although it is a bit out of the way if you don't have any other errands to do in the area.

2.5 starts. Went here for a concert on 9/28/18. This gives the impression of being a budget venue (cement floor, no cup holders, no floorplans to look at when deciding to buy tickets) that can hold about 7000. For some reason, when you buy a bottled drink, they take the cap off, or if it's a soft drink/beer/wine, you are walking around with an open cup - no lid which can easily spill and is not very safe in cold/flu season. Nor are there any cup holders on the seats. Not sure if this is an arena or city rule but it's ridiculous. Bring a spare bottle cap or lid and beat the system as well as keep your drink safe, ha!

Getting here by public transportation takes longer than expected but it is possible. From Broadway/City Hall, take the 99 bus to UBC. Then from there walk across the street and take another bus headed towards Thunderbird. It's too long of a walk from the main UBC drop off to walk. Bus back to UBC is across the street (not directly across though. Cross and then walk a little bit from the same direction the bus came from and you will see a bus stop)

Now if this place wants to be a serious venue for concerts, they need to get their act together and actually have seating maps at the ticket windows. It should not be a guessing game where the seats are.

Otherwise acoustics were great.

Was just there to watch Canadian Figure Skating Championships. Getting to the arena is very easy with a number of TransLink buses stopping right by the arena - and connecting to a Bus Rapid Transit/BRT line running close by.

Sightlines are great and security was not an issue. Very friendly folks, makes me wish I'd be back soon!

Went to a concert there, Parking was a nightmare getting in and it was a couple of blocks away from the venue. the facilities were ok but the concessions were very expensive. Now getting out was a different story, we had to park on the 4th floor of the parkade and it it took us 40 minutes to get out, when we did we were directed to a different exit to get back out. Not coming from Vancouver everything was unfamiliar and it was dark and the road had no clear signage. I will never return here and I will tell all my friends to pass. Absolute nightmare

I flew in from California to see the band Bastille play at the UBC Thunderbrd Arena. They put on a better show than the last time I saw them in California about a year ago. The performance was outstanding and the audience enthusiastic. The sound and seating was very good. I really enjoyed the band and the venue. I even got to meet a concert enthusiast couple almost my age in the line before the show. I had a great time

I came to see Louis C.K. Big place but not very organized. Long line-ups for drinks and snacks. The worst was the going back home. I got an Evo at the parkade in front of the stadium at the 4th floor. Was in the same place on the line to exit for over 35 min! I don't know what happened. Thinking 10x before coming here and never parking on that spot again

Went here to watch a concert but dang! I don't know whose on fault about the late entry to the stadium! The show started late and the staff outside called the fans dogs!

The good thing about the place the size, it was small so I was able to see the artist even from afar. ;)
