It pains me to write a negative review. Jim, the owner, is a very nice gentlemen and I think at one point this was a spectacular tour. However, we booked a half-day guided tour and were very disappointed. The website (being as dated as it is should have given us a clue) boasts different trips to choose from, but Jim doesn't have the staff to pull them off anymore. We weren't able to select which tour we wanted. Instead we left and returned from the public launch near his home at Spring Cove marina.

Two-thirds of his kayaks were missing or had broken rudders. The kayaks were lacking a little love and care. Even a simple hose down to get grass clippings, bugs, and cob webs out of them would have helped. Several of the life jackets needed to be replaced as I'm sure those did not meet coast guard standards - not that you really need life jackets when kayaking in the shallow waters of Swan Creek. But, he had great paddles - light weight carbon fiber with shaped blades.

The advertised "beach" stop near Humphreys point was a 10 ft by 2 ft patch of muddy land. There was no great way to get out and explore or enjoy the overgrown area, nor was there a good place to swim and enjoy the warm August water. And our email reminder that bottled water and high energy trail mix set some higher expectations than the one extra bottle of water that Jim had in his kayak.

The "guided" portion of the tour was almost non-existent. Other than navigational directions, there was very little information shared with the group about where we were paddling, or what we were seeing. Some brief explanation of a duck blind, and three sentences of history regarding one of the farms we saw was about it - for those close enough to hear Jim. We would have had the same trip if we were given a laminated map and let loose on the kayaks.

The scenery was beautiful. We weren't fortunate enough to see any of the bald eagles in the area, but we saw plenty of Osprey, Herons, ducks, and other birds. We had great weather, so we were able to enjoy the serenity of the area. Having done guided kayak, canoe, cycling, and hiking tours before, we had higher expectations.

I wish Jim the best of luck in what is clearly a delayed retirement.

We had an awesome sunset experience- weather was absolutely gorgeous, the water was like glass and Jim was very personable and friendly.

My mother and I went on a half-day kayak tour led by the owner Jim. He was fun and taught us a lot about the wetlands and history of the area. He did a great job leading the tour and was flexible with us. We got lost on our way there and he was patient and guided us. He even met us in town when we failed to meet him at the right place.

Our kayak with Jim was the perfect birthday celebration with my aunt (turning 79!) and teen / tween kids. We have all paddled before, but Jim gave an intro with the basics and we were off. We saw all sorts of birds (including great blue heron and osprey) and the skies were gorgeous. Jim set a comfortable pace and shared insights about the landscape and area. On the way back we tucked in to a small beach and the kids and I swam to cool down and stretch our legs. We were so glad we opted for the guided option!

My daughters (ages 14 and 15) and I went on a guided tour with Jim, the owner of Chester River Kayak Adventures. The tour was amazing! Jim gave us a brief overview of how to paddle, steer and board/exit the kayaks, and then we followed him down the winding river. Jim is very familiar with the local flora and fauna, and pointed out osprey, Canada geese, mallards, heron, black and red birds along the way. He also knew a lot about the local architecture and identified a house built in the 1790's and local connections with George Washington! We stopped at a shaded beach on the way back and had a nice dip in the river. This was thoroughly enjoyable! Jim obviously loves what he does, and it shows!

Jim provided excellent insight on what wildlife to keep an eye open for and where to site it. Throughout the course of my paddling journey I spotted multiple bald eagles, osprey, herons and more.

His guidance on which "path" to follow provided a beautiful and peaceful journey inland past old farms and homes. He accommodated my short notice on a kayak rental, and permitted me to use his golf cart and trailer so that I could extend my trip.

All in all a wonderful day in a beautiful location.

For the 1st time in my life, I left home with all my kayaking gear....except my paddles! LOL They rented to me the paddles and gave extra assistance helping Maryann choose the best type of water shoes that be best for her and on a map showed us the best place for us to kayak, in reference to where we were staying for the weekend and WHERE WE COULD SEE BALD EAGLES. Right where he recommended we saw at least 5 or 6 Bald Eagles!

We called in advance to see about kayak rentals on Swan Creek and were advised kayaks were available. We were told to call to be sure someone was in the shop when we were there in Rock Hall. We called at 9 am to set up a time to check in. When no one called back we went to the shop and to Spring Cove to look for the owner. No luck. At 2:30 pm we’re still waiting for a response. Meanwhile we found kayaks for rent at Eastern Neck Boat Rental and had a fun day on the Chester River. We’re not coming back to Chester River Kayak Adventures where the rescale adventure is finding customer service.

My wife and I had a great time on our half day kaya trip. Jim - our tour guide (and owner) was very knowlegdable about the area, pointed out wildlife in the area, and answered all our questions. We would definitely book another trip with Jim down the road.

Great trip. Jim was very easy-going and we felt safe with him because we had kids age 10-13. He brought the kayaks right to us but we did have to help him lift them. Be sure to tell him how experienced you are because you might get stuck with a too heavy kayak. The beach was nice place to stop to drink water and eat.We were a little disappointed because he did not provied water or high energy trail mix as promised. He may have forgotten has it was a busy weekend in Rock Hall.
