This climb was much harder than it was said to be. Took us a long time and trail wasn’t marked all that good. Very steep and slippery in spots on the way down

Take the 0.2mi to the Ledges at the highest point of the trail!
If you pass it by, you’re an idiot.

Seriously, why bother hiking if you’re not going to take advantage of such a natural treasure?!

This trail is all about the Ledges!!!
The views from the Ledges are among my favorite in the White Mountains. I literally feel angered when I learn that doofuses hiked here and walked right by. Summer and Fall this view is stunning. And the Ledges are expansive enough to feel safe taking a seat, though the Ledges are very high.btw if you keep waking along the Lesges you can see the Moats very well!

Parking: $5 But it is free with an interagency pass.
Skill level: Steepness makes it moderate.

This trail is totally fine taking in the rain because the cover keep you pretty dry! Beautiful and steep trail. I would suggest taking the loop to the left when it splits- but honestly I think it is equally steep both ways. More like climbing stairs than a leisurely hike, but the views are worth it! Bonus: Access to the Swift River at parking area.

we did this trail the day before we summited mt washington. this trail gains 1000ft in elevation, took about 1.5h and sufficiently challenged us (but not too difficult). you enter off the highway and pay ~$5 (money in envelope and then hang the placard in your car). cross the covered bridge and then cross into the trailhead. it's technically an interpretive trail (12 stations, grab a pic of the explanations at the trailhead) though we didn't really experience it that way bc our phones were dying. we saw some chipmunks (so cute!) and lotsa changing leaves. there were 2 beautiful lookouts. you can enjoy the loop either clockwise or counterclockwise. there were plenty of dogs. i think it would be a bit challenging in terms of steepness for most kids. we saw young and old folks. there are several hiking sticks at the trailhead. enjoy!

Amazing hike. Highly recommend. Be sure to take plenty of water and grab one of the walking sticks cleaning up against the map at the trailhead. Wear good shoes because this is a challenging, uphill hike but so worth it. Take lots of pictures. I hope to come back sometime and do this hike again.

My wife and I are very experienced hikers, but slow-moving these days. This was an enjoyable hike, with many boulders and cliffs at various points along the route. We did the loop in a counterclockwise direction, but didn't feel that it would be pronouncedly easier or harder done the other way. The hike totals just over three miles, with somewhere between 900 and 1,000 feet of ascent, and took us about three hours including a long lunch break. That lunch break took place at a spot referred to as "The Ledges", on a side trail about 0.2 mi off the main trail, with the best views on the hike, including Mt. Chocorua, Mt. Whiteface, Mt. Passaconaway, and the Tripyramids. This is a self-guided nature walk, with a lot of information on signs at the start. Parking cost $5.

Nice hike that offer some good views from the top. I've heard that it's easier to do it counterclockwise but we did it clockwise and didn't find it too bad.

Great hike, but it is seriously like climbing a flight of stairs. The knees did not like it! Great view for the amount of time it takes to get there though. We did it late afternoon and had a great time.

Approx 3 miles loop trail, parking at the base, $5 per car. My suggestion is take the left trail up, it spaces out the elevation inclines. This is approx 2100 feet gain in elevation throughout the hike, so bring snacks! Probably take about 2-3 hours, the top view is a great place for lunch break. My 6 y/o hiked it with some struggle, but encouragement helped... make sure you take the overlook path all the way in, the views at the end are some of the best! Well marked path makes it easy to navigate! There are some blueberries to eat at the top!
