Guide knew very little about the area and mansion. Openly admitted that much of what she was telling was speculation but it was passed off as fact. She really seemed to be pushing an agenda but that’s to be expected when you don’t know many facts.

My husband and I visited Rose Hill Plantation on a Sunday in March. It was a beautiful place to visit. Unfortunately we missed the last tour of the day so we walked around the property and looked in the windows promising to come back. The history is palatable. It was very quiet and soothing to walk the grounds. When we left the main road we were going to take had a bridge out so we took another road through the woods which brought us to what we believe to be a newly found slave grave yard and then a bit further the "Marsar"s family grave yard. It was so moving to come upon these two cemeteries. We would definitely go back and highly recommend it.

Disappointed that docent was not more knowledgeable about the house and family. We learned several very interesting items on line after the tour. We've seen lots of home museums and this tour was the worse.

Very enjoyable tour of the house. Advise you make reservations as they are currently only allowing 8 per tour. Ranger who led the tour was very knowledgeable and could answer any question put to her.

Nature trail was a short enjoyable walk.

We were a group with four adults and nine children. The ranger did an excellent job of keeping the children ages 1 to 11 engaged. Educational and interesting tour.

The tour of this historic home was totally worthwhile. The guide gave us a thorough overview of the Gist family and their slaves. He had copies of original documents he could show us to flesh out the history. A great deal of effort has been put in the restoration of this building and we learned about that process as well. Full marks also to the DAR for their work and support of the project.
There is a nice picnic area in the shade, some of which is under a shelter. We didn't go on the brief nature trail, but some of us are planning to go back.
The house tour is $10 (less for seniors, etc.) and reservations are suggested, but the rest of the grounds is free. Back down the road is the Gist family cemetery.
Who knew this wonderful resource was available?

Rose Hill Plantation is well worth the small entrance fee. Our SC State Park Service guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the house, its furnishings, the plantation, the area, & its time period. A wonderful history lesson! An enjoyable tour which last about 50 minutes.

We drove for miles through much of the Sumter National Forrest and even a detour to reach this historic site of a past SC Governor. The grounds are massive and include a beautiful historic home, large picnic area, restrooms in a very old wood shed, and beautiful magnolias. We enjoyed walking around the property and watching the birds feast on whatever berries they could find.

This is still a beautiful plantation. Its been 9 years since I last visited-still a great park. The house outside and within are still maintained in great shape. The ranger was very friendly. Stopped to get my park passport stamped but toured around and enjoyed myself. Picnic area, out buildings and a nature trail are there as well. Go and enjoy!

The house is still closed at this time but still enjoyable to walk around the house, garden and trails. The garden is small but there are several old magnolia trees, fragrant vintage roses and out buildings. A nice touch was being able to speak with the park ranger about this historic property. We took the trail mostly down to the Tyger river but it got a bit too muddy towards the end so turned around. We then drove to historic downtown Union afterwards & went over an amazing Iron Bridge on the way.
