This review talks about costs, parking, the shuttle, bathrooms, and of course the play. 8-)
Costs: Excellent value to see a wonderfully acted play, "The Drowsy Chaperone," surrounded by nature with a live orchestra! For around $40, we got orchestra seats plus rented the soft cushions for $1 at the show. They definitely made the plastic seats comfortable and kept our legs from sticking to the chairs. Buy your seats early, since plays sell out.
Parking: The website recommends you arrive no later than 7:15 pm for the 8:00 pm show especially if you need to use the shuttle to drop you off closer to the stage plus the parking lots gets crowded.
We arrived for at Thursday 7:00 pm with a stop at the Leavenworth Community Farmers Market before. We got first row parking which was nice.
Shuttle: There was a line of chairs for people waiting to board the shuttle. We took the shuttle (a few steps up) a short distance up the mountain. It dropped us off at the porta potty bathrooms where it was a short uphill distance and then steps to the outside theater.
After showing your ticket, you could rent a seat cushion with $1 cash. The users showed your way to the seats.
The Play: The play was a fun, well acted with singing and a great tap dance number. The humor kept me chuckling throughout the play. The live orchestra to the right of the stage sounded wonderful. The theater has a new sound system, and everything was clear and heard at a good listening volume. I was impressed with the "The Drowsy Chaperone" stage as seen in the picture. For an outdoor theater, I thought it was great and looked forward to seeing how they handled the set changes. I have been to plays at the Kennedy Center and Broadway. I enjoyed the quality of the theater at Leavenworth and would definitely see a play again.
As it got later, the sound of the crickets singing and seeing the twinkling blanket of stars above the trees contributed to the wonderful atmosphere.
Bathroom: During the 15 minute intermission, there was time to buy drinks or a snack or walk down to the porta potties. It has been a while since I have used one, and they are small! They had toilet paper and ability to flush if you use the foot pump on the floor. There was a hand washing station with running water outside.
After the play, we walked down the hill to the car. There was a stringed lighting along the road to help light the way.

If in Leavenworth, check out the schedule for the local mountain theater. We attended the Drowsy Chaperone last night and it was fun, entertaining with live music! Beautiful setting up at the ski hill . Short hike up and beautifully lit for the walk down. Had a glass of wine at the MT lodge before the show!

We go every summer. It never gets old. We have taken our 5 year old grandson, who LOVED it. The cast is a mix of professionals and locals, all have been top notch. The walk up the hill from the parking lot is refreshing and a nice way to let go of the day before sitting and enjoying the view and breeze at the theater. Locals offer seat pads and also water and snacks at intermission. Cast members greet patrons as they walk up the hill and then show you to your seat. They also greet patrons after the play. There is an optional shuttle up and down the hill. The whole experience is one of our can't miss events every summer!

Sound of music was absolutely amazing and what a beautiful backdrop with the mountains behind it. This year, 2022, they had the music man, sound of music, and secret garden. Maria was the lead in sound of music and music man- her performance was flawless! The male leads were absolutely amazing as well. The whole cast was so supportive and sounded fantastic for both shows that I was able to see!! I was unable to see secret garden (due to travel restrictions) which was the third show but only heard good things.
Leavenworth shows are a MUST SEE on your trip to Leavenworth.

Great way to spend an evening in Leavenworth! Be aware that it happens in an outdoor amphitheater in the woods, so if it's a hot night it might be a little uncomfortable as it is a bit of an uphill walk to get to your seat (wear flat shoes). Also, there are foldout chairs to sit on with cushions you can rent but you have to be there early to rent the cushions as they run out.
The production we saw though was very fun - the lead actress has a fantastic voice and the children were adorable.

Great show! We saw the sound of music. I didn’t have any issue hearing what the actors were saying or singing, despite the outdoor location. It drizzled a bit before the show but they had ponchos and then the rain stopped. Beautiful location, above all, and easy to get to from the main Leavenworth square.

We saw The Sound of Music production again this year. The setting is really beautiful in the evening. Shuttle bus from the parking lot up to the amphitheater on the side of the mountain for people who need assistance. The production is generally done by locals, but is very well done. This year's lead performer was an outstanding actress with professional training at the Manhattan School of Music and Arts - beautiful voice and excellent actress. Three hours in duration with a small band and outdoor stage. The troup also does a couple of other productions in July and August. They sell out very early, so go to the website before May and get on the alert list for tickets when they go on sale in June.

After many trips to Leavenworth we finally attended a presentation here, The Sound of Music. The performance was top notch. Maria was not a Problem at all. Quite fantastic, as were all the cast members. The show stealer was Gretl, the 5 year old star in the making. And what a great setting for the Alps. The hills were truly alive with music.

Great experience seeing the Sound of Music and Music man in Leavenworth. Maria is outstanding in the lead and everyone does a great job. Very friendly staff and great locations. Sky Hill theater is up a hill but they do have a shuttle bus for Sound of Music. Fish Hatchery is flat and shorter walk for Music Man. It will cool down at night so you may want a light covering. Seat cushions available for a dollar and members receive free. Use your phone light to have better vision returning to your car as the lighting is not great. Will be back!

We saw the LIVE production of "SOUND OF MUSIC" on the stage in the hills = OUTDOORS at SUNSET ! !
Ushers passed out free blankets and pillows for us OLD FOLKS ! !
If you have seen JULIE ANDREWS in an actual play or in one of her movies, then you have an idea of plot.
Directions are: MAIN ROAD into town from the WEST to EAST ... Turn North (right) on "SKI HILL DRIVE" which climes up a hill to the top of the road to their parking lot. You will be directed by parking attendants.
Enjoy whatever show they have playing ! ! They are ALL GREAT ! !

Do you have an email list? I would like to get on it that would tell me all the upcoming shows including for 2016 when they are available. Thanks Verna

I tried to type in the name of the website but Tripadvisor won't allow it. Just google the name Leavenworth Summer Theater and the website should come up.
You can see their calendar of shows, purchase tickets there and become a donor. We just saw Singing in the Rain last Friday and it was a really great production. Special effects, singing and dancing and so cute. For $30 a ticket, this is an exceptionally well done community theater. I've become a donor and go every year.

Going to be in Leavenworth September 5th and 6th, what is the show and how much?
Do you have a show on Thurs. July 9th or Friday July 10th? If so, what is it and how much are tickets? Also are you able to handle disabled--can't do stairs.
Thanx
Julie
