If current bookings on Priceline.com are any indication, Times Square will be the most popular place to ring in 2012, with a forecast for mild weather in the Northeast helping to push the Big Apple's famous drop ahead of fireworks along the Las Vegas Strip. But as TripAdvisor's annual list of quirky New Year's Eve celebrations makes abundantly clear, would-be revelers have no shortage of countdown alternatives to New York's (newly energy efficient) crystal ball.
Big city options include the Peach Drop in Atlanta and Orange Drop in Miami, while Mobile, Ala. has MoonPie Over Mobile - an homage to the city's annual consumption of more than 4 million of the Chattanooga-made sweet treats. Pennsylvania's gargantuan food choices incude an ersatz marshmallow Peep in Bethlehem, chocolate kiss in Hershey, bologna in Lebanon, bag of potato chips in Lewistown and pickle in Dillsburg, along with such symbols of industry as a wrench in Mechanicsburg and a steamroller in Steelton...
