Because it was a very kind, accurate and fulfilling time to show us around 🤭
They took enough time to see where they needed to see it, following the path they had taken.

Emile was amazing. He had all the facts because they were his story, his family history, back to his grandfather. I never had such a personal tour. I only wish I could find his equivalent in every tour I take going forward. As we travelled from important site to important site he used the travel time to prep us in depth for what was next so that when we arrived we were prepared, We were ready to grasp the history, the human story of this slice of the past as if we had witnessed it ourselves! I shall never be able to thank Emile enough. Thank you trip advisor.

I was lucky to join a tour last minute. The communication and booking was easy and friendly. Gordana was our guide and she was amazing with telling us about the history of Arles and St.Remy which involved Van Gogh and a few other significant locals. I would say the only disappointing part of the tour, for me, was not exploring the asylum in St.Remy where Van Gogh spent time there. She explained that this is still being used and to respect the privacy of the patients, which I totally get, however, I would have liked to have walked around. I'm giving this review 5 stars because it was a great trip and Gordana was a friendly and knowledgable guide.

We went to the south of France primarily because of a lifelong fascination with Van Gogh. Anne was our guide for this five-hour tour and we can't say enough good things about her. She's multilingual and expert in the culture and history of Provence as well as Van Gogh and other artists. She has also very kindly helped me follow up with a shop owner.
If we ever return to Arles and Anne and/or Gordana do a full-day tour, we'd like to take a closer look at the site of the Yellow House and the view from there of the harbor and of what used to be the "Poet's Garden" (Van Gogh's name for it) which was visible from VG's bedroom. It no longer has even the scruffy trees of Van Gogh's day, but it would be good to check out the original sites of the "garden" from the vantage point of the Yellow House's location, the police station diagonally across from the Yellow House, the original locations of Cafe de la Gare, and the Venissac restaurant which were also across from the park. We'd also like to see the general location of the House of Tolerance no.1 where VG took his ear to "Rachel"/Gaby. The short street still exists but the building is now a private home and the house number is not publicized. We'd also like, on our next trip, to go inside the monastery at Saint-Remy despite it being NEXT to the still-active asylum where VG stayed and not where he actually was treated. But the monastery has set up a room similar to what VG's room looked like and there are original art works by current patients that can be purchased. Also, the gardens of the monastery were painted extensively by Van Gogh so that is worth seeing.
We also want to thank Gordana who communicated with us by email during the planning of our trip...other reviews point out that she is also a terrific guide!
*It's good to know that this is a WALKING tour, mostly on cobblestone streets. Bring your best walking shoes.*

We drove from Lyon to Avignon for the tour on our way to Aix-en-Provence the Saturday before Bastille Day. We left at 9:30 am for our 2:30 pm tour and barely made it in time — so my first recommendation is avoid driving on the Saturday before Bastille Day (it should have taken roughly two hours).
We arrived frazzled and Gordana, our wonderful tour guide immediately made us forget our stress with her lovely car (we wound up being her only two guests that day) and cool bottles of water, as well as her welcoming and friendly manner. We started in Arles and visited several locations that were subjects of Van Gogh’s paintings. In addition to Van Gogh, Gordana is very learned in local history and we enjoyed seeing several Roman ruins, as well as the ruined bridge that the French Resistance destroyed in WWII.
From there we drove to Baux. On her way Gordana stopped to check if the line was long for the Carrieres de Lumieres multimedia show on Vincent Van Gogh. Fortunately and unusually (perhaps the benefit of being there on a holiday weekend) we were able to go in for an additional charge (well worth it) with no line. Held in an old quarry, Van Gogh’s work is displayed with a light and music show — it was absolutely spectacular — as Gordana aptly described it you felt like you were a part of his paintings. Apparently this is not a usual stop in these tours so we were incredibly grateful circumstances allowed us to see it. Gordana generously told us to take our time while she waited, and we spent an hour enjoying that amazing experience.
From there we drove to Baux, stopping at a beautiful overlook. We spent about a half hour of free time in the charming village. As I mentioned Gordana is very knowledgeable about Provence and its history in general and we learned much more than just about Van Gogh.
Finally we went to St. Remy. Gordana drove us by the mental hospital where Van Gogh painted Starry Night as well as many other works. Because he checked himself in voluntarily he was granted extraordinary freedom to roam St. Remy and the surrounding countryside.
This was a wonderful tour and I highly recommend it. Gordon’s was a delight and made this something I will always remember.

Gordana was a wonderful, intelligent guide. The tour itself was just the right length and we loved the fact that it was a bus tour only in going from place to place. In the 3 places we visited we got to walk around and even had some free time to sit in cafes and absorb atmosphere. Gordana was punctual, the mini-van was spotless, and I would recommend her company to anyone who wants to do day trips from Avignon.

We loved this tour because not only was it incredibly picturesque but we learned so much. Tour driver was very, very knowledgeable and patient, probably because he was a local. Every thing was run on time, and the cost was quite reasonable.

Is this a small group tour, or a larger bus?
Escrita el 15 de agosto de 2019
Hi,
This is a small group tour. I think they normally have a mini-van (6-8 person capacity) but when my husband and I went it was only the two of us and our tour operator drove us in her very nice new car.
