Our guide, Marella, was amazingly knowledgeable, gracious and friendly. Spending a day with her was an absolutely delightful experience. We learned interesting facts about the many small towns and villages around Montepulciano and Pienza, including the geology and flora. The wines we tasted were outstanding and the lunch was amazingly tasty. The only objection was the day seemed short!

This trip met all of our expectations. The country side is breathtaking and we had some opportunities to take photos. There is some free time to explore the two towns and do a bit of shopping and admiring more views. Our guide Guglielmo was excellent. He is so knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the area and makes you want to come back another time. The lunch at the farm was excellent as was the setting.

Three perfect tours with Tuscan Escapes could not be any better!! I booked the tours well ahead of our trip to Italy and it was so very smooth and informative. I can’t thank enough for arrangements done beforehand, because all went almost exactly as planned. One bike tour (supposed to be the fourth one) was removed from the program due to a schedule change, but the recommended company as a replacement did a fabulous job (see another review of Anima Toscana). We did Brunello wine tour, San Gimignano and the Sunset dinner tour with Tuscan Escapes, which all were wonderful! The itinerary was free enough that it didn’t feel rushed at all, yet still it was full enough to see as much as possible. Food - scrumptious! Wine - delicious! Guides - one of the best we have ever had. Cannot praise them enough. Helpful, informative, easy going, tentative with very good language skills and smiles on their faces. I will join the other travelers and give this company full five points for such fantastic tours. I am ever so thankful for giving us these experiences <3

We booked this tour because we wanted to get a taste of Tuscany without having to deal with renting a car. This day tour highly exceeded our expectations and it was all because of our wonderful guide Guglielmo (I hope I am spelling this right! He said it was the Italian version of William).
He was such a friendly and informative guide and we felt like we were talking with a friend right away. He answered all of our cultural and historical questions so thoroughly! He stopped the vehicle whenever we saw a gorgeous view along the road, like a gorgeous field of red poppies. You can tell that his enthusiasm is genuine despite how long and tiring these day tours must be for the guides!
Beyond our guide, the day itself was stunning. The drive to Pienza was perfect and I wanted to look in every direction. Both Pienza and Montepulciano were beautiful hilltop towns and the lunch spot was so scenic. I think I got up 6 separate times to get photos from the terrace we ate lunch on.
I highly recommend this tour! If we had more time in Siena, we would have looked into booking other ones through this company. Next time!

Let me first start off by saying this day trip was the highlight of our 2+weeks in Italy. Our guide Guglielmo could not have been better. He was so knowledgeable about the region and his country, and took time to thoughtfully explain where we were and the history behind each stop. The day was perfectly planned out and Guglielmo was atentative the entire trip. Each stop was better than the next. Pienza was our favorite.
Tuscany is such an authentic area and we had the best guide for the region.

Everything was fantastic. Georgia was very knowledgeable and gave us many interesting facts that I would never have known to ask about. Very comfortable van. Scenery of Tuscany countryside was breathtaking! The lunch was very elegant at the farm . The family that owned the farm were very informative about the food and cheese. The 3 towns we visited were all beautiful! I really loved the first tiny town of Chiusure where we stopped for coffee. Pienza and montelpuciano were very interesting and we enjoyed the wine tour and tasting as well! We really enjoyed Georgia’s company !

Wow. What an amazing experience we had. First: Small group, which is very nice. We were lucky and had such a fun group of people that were ready to enjoy the day. Second: You get to roam each place on your own, so you aren't stuck with the group all day — really nice when you're wanting some romantic alone time. Third: Our tour guide, Guillermo, could not have been better. What a great guide — full of knowledge, but not boring. He told you just the right amount, and left room for you to ask questions if you wanted. Pienza is lovely. It's a postage-stamp sized town. Perfectly strollable and lovely to visit. Montepuliciano is also lovely. Each is perched atop a hill, so views are incredible. The winery/farm lunch was INCREDIBLE. There was more food than our group could eat, and the wine was flowing. It was lovely to sit outside and enjoy a meal served over several courses — each course better than the next. The price was very reasonable, considering it was an 8-hour tour, included an amazing lunch, driver with a comfortable passenger van, etc. I cannot recommend this tour enough. We would definitely do this again.

I'm traveling with my sister, brother in law and 20 year old niece for a couple of weeks in Italy. I really wanted to visit some smaller Tuscan towns and none of us wanted to do the driving.
The smaller towns we stopped at were charming, from the first one which is tiny and is the site of an artichoke festival in the spring, to the slightly larger Pienza, where we had a chance to stretch our legs and bought some delicious cheese to bring back and finally to Montepulcianco, the larger of the towns.
The highlight was visiting an organic bio dynamic family run farm where we had an extraordinary lunch featuring products from that farm, including seven cheeses, honey, jam, fresh greens, pasta milled from local wheat and more flavorful than any I've had in the states, followed up by pannacotta. Wine was available throughout as well, plus espresso.
Even though it's mid December I found the landscape very beautiful.
The only difficulty was the guide. I don't see her name listed in the reviews above, so maybe she doesn't do this trip that often. She was perfectly knowledgeable and I felt like I learned quite a bit about the region and about Italy in general.
But she seemed to take a dislike to us fairly early on, and all four us found it very difficult in different ways. She was on each of us for different reasons, but the total impact was negative for all of us.
I travel quite a bit, so I found this really confusing. I don't know what set her off - we were on time, respectful, we didn't ask for anything special in any way, thanked her profusely at every stop, but she was critical and judgemental of us. My niece is a picky eater and this showed up as just not finishing everything, but it's not like she was critical of the food, or asked for quesadillas in the middle of Italy or other kinds of bad behavior I've seen young people engage in. (I'm a college professor, I've taken students on trips. I know they can be annoying.)
We kept getting mixed messages on the trip - we'd get left out in a spot and told to meet her at a designated time. We were always at least five minutes earlier and she'd scold us for being late. She gave the message that she didn't want to be with us and that wasn't how I'd hoped the day would go.
Again, the itinerary was great, I felt that I saw stuff I wouldn't seen on my own, but it was a lot of money to pay to a guide who didn't seem to like us from the minute we got in the van.

We were picked up at the San Domenico location in Siena at 9:30 am and joined a group ( 8 in all) with tour leader Leonardo. He was wonderful and gave us a lot of iinteresting info and answered our questions as he was driving. We stopped for pictures during the beautiful Crete Senesi drive and had an espresso in a quaint village in Chuisure. Lunch included wine, salad, pasta and a cheese tasting, Pienza was a perfectly designed town and we had approximately 30 minutes to spend there. Enjoyed Montepulciano as well with a visit to a wine cellar.
Very good day - back to Siena about 5:30-6 pm. Recommend this trip if you are visiting Tuscany. Nice to have a driver and tour guide in one person!

Merci.

Would we still be able to visit the winery in Montepulciano if we are traveling with children? What would be the additional cost?

yes, you can ask the driver to stop.
Is this a winery tour also? Or just the towns?
Thanks!

Hi Anita, Thank you for your question, yes if you are interested in wines, there is an optional visit to a beautiful historic wine cellar followed by Nobile wine tasting in the hill town of Montepulciano, just let your guide know you would like to do the tasting, and we will take you there. No extra charges!
