During lockdown my mind was going back & forward trying to decide if I should book a Backyard Roadies Tour. I was sick of looking at my same four walls for months but scared to go on a tour not knowing anyone.
‘New Year New Me’ I set myself a goal to make this my year for travelling and booked the first Far North Tour for 2022 just one week prior. I was soo nervous to go alone and by the end of the first day it had already turned out to be the best thing that happened to me thus far, I was glad I chose to go solo. From strangers to friends to family in just one day!
I have already booked my next tour to Abel Tasman and have at least another one, if not two tours lined up for this year. If your like me and keep standing in your own damn way all the time, it’s time for you to step aside and see how amazing this experience really is…I promise you won’t regret it!

The Northen Tour is the BEST way to see the upper north island! The stress of transport and accomodation is taken care of so you really can live in the moment and take in all of the beauty! BYR is my favourite tour group, so many great sights and activities included. Sailing, to surfing and all the incredible swim spots it’s perfect for summer ! I highly recommend doing this instead of New Years festivals etc. As a solo member I walk after away each tour with new friends and great memories!
You can’t live in NZ and not explore all the country has to offer ! So support local tourism ! BYR cater for all people and abilities, they make you feel welcome and encourage you to get out of your comfort zone. It’s wholesome, fun, full of laughs and the best thing you will do, you’ll be addicted and love the tours and guides so much you’ll be booking your second then third trip . Absolutely go for it !

Alright, alright, alright. I had such a cool time doing the 4 Day Far North Escape and I’m so glad I did it. What an awesome way to experience NZ. You hit a bunch of iconic kiwi spots such as Paihia, Waipu, Te Rerenga Wairua (Cape Reinga), Ahipara, Hokianga and get to visit The Lord of the Forest ‘Tāne Mahuta’ in the Waipoua Forest, Kai Iwi lakes as well as a few other hidden gems.
I went solo and was included right from the start, so whatever your reservations, don’t hesitate to go for it! It is a super diverse and inclusive environment and incredibly good value for what you get, all you need to do is to show up and the rest will be totally stress-free. It is very well organised and coordinated by the tour guides. If you’re feeling unsure, try one of the 4-day tours first and you’ll never look back.
All of the hard work Jason has put into Backyard Roadies is evidenced in what is an unforgettable experience – what a blast! Jason has developed the epitome of the NZ roadie and is well on his way to becoming a bonafide legend of Kiwi touring. Millie and Jason are a duo made in roadie heaven, what a great team, super professional and knowledgeable, yet totally down to earth and easy to talk to. I highly recommend it to any and all wanting to explore our beautiful New Zealand, meet new people, and have an awesome time all along the way. Strap yourselves in for the Kiwi roadie dreams are made of!
All of the accommodations we stayed at were super cool with nice spots for us all to hang out together. The van we traveled in was really comfortable with plenty of space for all of us and the air conditioning felt so good on those hot summer days. While cruising along in the van you’ll also get to see some incredible scenery. I’m from Auckland and I never realised how scenic our country is – I’m so glad I got to experience the real Kiwi land and I feel all the luckier and prouder to call Aotearoa my home. Best of all, even once the roadie is over, you will have lifelong friends to take away with you – the icing on the cake couldn’t be much sweeter.
Jason has identified a niche in the market and he has totally owned it. Jason is very knowledgeable about NZ and his passion for the NZ roadie is second to none. Jason, you are the real MVP. As soon as I got back, I immediately wanted to do another one. Some people were having such a blast they even signed up for future tours while we were on our one. No surprises there. From surfing to sailing, Jason had our daily activities on lock and he and Millie ensured everyone had a great time. See you at the next one. Jason, you are the NZ Roadie Master!

This trip was absolutely amazing!! Pre COVID I loved to travel overseas and with the boarders being closed this was the next best thing 🤩 There were so many sights that left me in awe and made me fall in love with my home again and left me wanting to explore more of it so I ended up moving cities to do so! So HUGE thank you to Jason and everyone else I met for making this a very special trip ❤

Fantastic experience and worth every cent. Jason has very in depth knowledge on all the spots and will take you to a number of different locations you probably wouldn’t normally go to. Thoroughly recommend it for anyone considering it!

I signed up for the Northland tour, excited to see a place I had never visited before. However, what I got was far more than that.
Four days of sight-seeing both on and off the beaten track, beaches, delicious food and good times all alongside people whom I’d never met before who are now good friends.
Thank you Isaac and Jason for making everyone feel welcomed and being awesome in general. I loved learning the history about some of the places we visited.
Can’t wait to do a South Island tour with you guys!
