    Chobe National Park
    Parada: 15 horas

Spectacular day trip
mar. de 2020
This was one of the best day trips we have done. Webster ,Stanley and Captain Jack are the most welcoming and knowledgeable guides.
There isn’t anything to fault about this trip. This is well worth getting up early for. Although it isn’t the 5 star experience of some, the knowledge and humour of the guides can’t be beaten. Lunch included was very good and the ability to have a rest in between the two activities was most welcome. The use of the smaller boat was ideal to access all areas of the river and Jack was extremely patient whilst we took multiple bird pictures. Fantastic day thank you!

BEST BEST CHOICE for Safarri to Chobe National Park
ene. de 2020
Booked with Trip Advisor as DK Tours which was so easy. EXCELLENT email responsiveness from Webster prior to our trip and how he arranged our hotel to pack us a breakfast to go at 5am, shows attention to detail.

We were handed off at the border at Botswana to Vincent who's Toyota Land Cruiser was very spacious and comfortable for the tour within the Park. Everyone would say they had the best experience, we would say we had the best best experience. Vincent knew the Park like the back of his hand. Friendly and calm stopping as many times as we needed to get the right picture. We even had a tea/coffee break with little cookies on the bumper of the Cruiser. Saw lions, giraffe, elephants, water buffalo, hippos, and so many more.

We were dropped off for lunch and a little time of relaxation and then picked up by Captain Jack for the cruise portion of the Chobe River. Another example of excellent service with drinks available and the whole boat to ourselves. All three guides were so knowledgeable about Chobe.

EXCELLENT value and a beautiful and exciting time by all.

A truly fantastic day we will never forget!
oct. de 2019
This safari makes for a long 15-hour day but it is totally worth it. My wife and I booked it in advance of our stay in Victoria Falls, preferring it to shorter alternatives because you don’t go on holiday in southern Africa very often and we wanted to make the most of it!

Webster, who organises the trip from the Zimbabwe side, picked us up from our Vic Falls hotel at 5am – he was cheerfully waiting as we stumbled, bleary eyed, into reception. He provided a packed breakfast and drove us in an air-conditioned mini-van for the hour or so it took to get to the Botswana border, stopping briefly to show us a hyena family hanging out by the roadside. He guided us through border control and introduced us to Vincent who was to be our guide and driver for the first part of the safari.

We settled into the safari vehicle, a Range Rover. Plenty of room, open to the air for viewing purposes but with a canvass roof to protect us from the sun. Once we reached the park, Vincent switched to 4-wheel drive and we were on our way. Vincent was very knowledgeable about the animals and, fortunately for us, great at spotting them even in the distance or when they were hiding in the bushes. Overall, he did a great job of looking after us and making sure we had a wonderful time – always good natured and helpful.

After the 5-hour drive, Vincent took us to the Chobe Safari Lodge where a buffet lunch was provided and we were then able to take a break and relax.

Vincent then took us to rendezvous with ‘Captain Jack’ who was to be our guide for a 3-hour cruise on the Chobe river. We had a small boat to ourselves, again with canvass roof to protect us from the sun. Jack was also extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife and knew exactly where to find it. There are lots of much larger boats on the river but we were glad we chose this tour because the small boat meant Jack could get into the smaller inlets in the river bank so we were up close and personal with the wildlife – especially the crocs, one of which slipped into the water and swam past as we watched. The river cruise ended with a beautiful sunset and we got some really great pics!

The Chobe National Park is huge and you will only see a fraction of it. However, you will definitely see lots of wildlife. We saw elephants, giraffes, zebra, hippos, buffalo, warthogs, antelope (including kudu), impala, baboons, crocodiles and countless bird species including vultures, carmine bee-eaters and spoonbills. You never go for more than a few minutes without snapping your camera. Make sure you have a camera with an optical zoom and don’t forget your binoculars.

Would I recommend this trip? Oh yes, without a doubt. We loved it!

Excellent from start to finish
oct. de 2019
This was a simply brilliant day. The organisation was first class with everything running to time from the pick up at 5:00am to drop off at 8:00pm (a long day)
The drive from Victoria falls took about an hour with a couple of quick stops on the way to view an antelope and a family of hyenas and we arrived at the Botswana border just as it opened at 6:00am. We then transferred do a safari style jeep for the next 5 hours or so and drove for about 20 minutes to the Chobe national park arriving about 6:30. We then spent the next few hours being driven round the park with a quick stop for breakfast coffee, cakes and fruit, our guide was friendly, very knowledgable and seemed to know where to go to get up close and personal with the animals. We saw everything we wanted to see, elephants, impala, zebra, crocodiles, hippos, giraffe, lion & lioness etc and had some fantastic photo opportunities.
After leaving the park we were taken to a lodge for a very nice buffet lunch and then on to meet captain Jack who took us on a 3 hour water safari where we saw predominately the same animals again but from an entirely different perspective. Having stayed on the water late enough to see the sunset we were then taken back home extremely happy not to mention shattered. Exceeded our expectations and would highly recommend
Worth noting that you do not need a visa to enter Botswana but you do to get back in to Zimbabwe. We bought a dual entry visa on arrival at Victoria falls airport no idea if this was the best way to do it

Animals, Adventure, Africa (That's a AAA rating)
sep. de 2019
The extended day trip is definitely the way to go. This trip is well suited for chilled adventurous people who love wildlife viewing and great company.

We (two mid-twenties, Aussie females) chose the extended version for maximum wildlife viewing opportunities and weren't disappointed. Webster picked us up at our hotel at 5 am and was great company for the drive to the Botswana border. The early start allowed us to see a beautiful sunrise and a jackal.

At Botswana, we met with Captain Jack and Vincent, the latter who was our guide for five hours of wildlife viewing in the Chobe National Park. The game viewing frequency was amazing. During the drive we saw; giraffes, zebras, stripped mongoose, Sable antelope, buffalo, tsessebe, two sightings of lions, lots of different species of antelope, elephants and hippos. Lots and lots of elephants and hippos.

Vincent had a vast amount of interesting (and humorous) information about the different animals, birds and plants. He spotted some young lions eagerly eyeing a rooibok/impala carcass in a tree, and helped us (with great patience) find the very well hidden leopard near its meal.

After the drive he dropped us off at lodge for an excellent buffet lunch. This was followed by 3 hours of wonderful river adventure on the Chobe river with Captain Jack, aka eagle eyes. How he spots half the animals is a mystery. The boat is small and is perfect for getting close to shores and animals. It was the highlight of the day. We saw more hippos, buffolo, elephants, puku antelope, water monitors, crocodiles, African fish eagle, ground hornbills, spoonbills and the list goes on and on. Did we mention the elephants and hippos? The sunset was spectacular (and this was after two sunset cruises on the Zambezi river).

The day wasn't over yet! Webster picked us up from at the border again and on the drive back, we saw a PORCUPINE (other people seem to capitalise leopards but ... a porcupine!) and hyenas.

Bring your own packed breakfast or enjoy some yummy biscuit/rusks with your morning coffee or tea. They provide plenty of bottled water. The boat was the second smallest on the river and we were the envy of the huge people movers.

Webster also provided us with transfers between Victoria Falls Airport and our hotel.

Thank you Webster, Vincent, and Captain Jack for a wonderful day!

Chobe great - extended version.... give a miss
sep. de 2019
The Chobe National Park was excellent. Lots of Elephants and Hippos. Even got an extended view of a male Lion walking the banks.

Really recommend going to the park.

The "extended" trip was disappointing. There are different parties responsible for different aspects of the activity - such as:
one is responsible for travel from Victoria Falls to the border.
Another from the border to the Chobe park
Another for the game drive then you are taken to the hotel for lunch.
Another is then for the river cruise
Then back to the transport people for your journey back again.

The extended tour - we were dropped at the hotel for lunch and we were told we would be there for 2 1/2 hours !!!! The river cruise guys turned up late and we were in limbo. The hotel had emptied the restuarant and we were sitting there like "billy no mates" just waiting not really knowing who was coming or who to contact.

So....... in summary - Chobe yes - Extneded version - No.

Thank you very much for your review, we are happy to note that you did enjoy the game viewing potion (which is the objective of the safari anyway) albeit with some disappointments with the way the tour was executed. Please kindly note that both options of the Chobe day trip (the shorter tour and the extended version) have the three parts - the return transfers, the game drive in the Chobe National Park and the late afternoon boat cruise on the Chobe River and these are all done by different guides/drivers. This is the best way the trip is done and most guests do not have any problem with this. We apologize to those who find this arrangement not to their taste. On the extended version guests do five hours of game viewing in the back of a truck and the roads are all not as smooth. Because of this we always think that they will need the two hour layover before the cruise so they can relax and rest from the bumps (the African massage- we call it); and besides it will still be way too hot to be on the boat. Relaxing by the hotel pool area is one of the best ways to do this. To those with the time and the will-power to do so, the extended version of the Chobe Day Trip offers the guest ample time for game viewing in the park (5 hours) and on the river (3 hours) without being rushed through the park like on the shorter version. Most of our guests on the longer version have encountered the big four of the Chobe in just one day (Lions, Leopards, Buffalo and Elephants – no Rhinos in the Chobe National Park); and besides the game viewing they also get to witness the sunset on the Chobe River and lots more on the early hours and late in the evening on the drive back to Victoria Falls. To NICK – GL… team DK Tours once again apologizes for not meeting your expectations, I will be happy to be your guide for the rest of the trip on your next visit.

Extensive Wildlife Viewing on Land & Water
sep. de 2019
My wife and I are traveling seniors and were the only two people on this tour. We were concluding our August South Africa trip at Victoria Falls and had one full day to explore a portion of Chobe National Park in Botswana. We chose this tour because it purported to offer 15 hours of touring vs 8 hours for others we looked at online, although I'm not sure if the 8 hour tours included the aprox. 4 hour round trip driving and border crossing time. Regardless, we certainly got our money's worth having been picked up and departing promptly at 5 a.m. and returning to our hotel on the Zambezi river at 8:30 p.m. Our hope was to see nocturnal animals during those early and late hours. Early morning was a washout but at night on the return we encountered a pack of three wild dogs, a night roaming bull elephant, LEOPARD and a spotted hyena and pup! These alone were worth the effort and extra expense. The sightings during 5 hours of heavy duty bush travel was mediocre due to this being the end of dry season; most of the game was on the Chobe River which we were enthralled with on the 3+ hour small boat safari including a spectacular sunset. Besides large game we are also bird enthusiasts and this tour was perfect because the guides stopped whenever and for how ever long we asked in order to photograph and "study" the bird and animal behavior. (If you don't have the energy for such a long day, I'd recommend a half day on the water). This time of year it's chilly in the pre-dawn hours riding in the open 9 passenger safari 4X4. Bring a box breakfast from your hotel, the tour provides plenty of bottled water. Lunch was an excellent buffet at a game lodge on the Chobe river where several other tours were eating also. The boat would have held 6 passengers and was perfect for getting really, really close to the birds and the beasts, unlike the large pontoon boats. The animals we saw were active, in good numbers and up close. Webster drove us to and from the Botswana border check point and handed us over to a very capable bush driver/guide and then a boat/river guide. It felt like Africa. fyi: you won't see Rino because they cannot be protected and have been removed to safer havens.

Wonderful wildlife, lovely guides and drivers but...
ago. de 2019
I arranged this tour prior to departing the US. Webster was great with communicating and reassuring me that my group was set. I was a bit nervous about the whole thing because I had really sold this day trip to the other five in our group. Webster showed up right on time in a very nice van. He had arranged for Vincent to meet us at the Zim/Bot border (don't plan on using the bathrooms there--broken and a mess when we were there). Vincent was a very likeable guy but the vehicle he was driving wasn't in the best shape. I noticed the glove box was duct-taped shut and we puttered along at 40 mph on the 20 min of highway to Chobe while others zoomed past. I wasn't confident in the car, that's for sure. Just after we saw an enormous hippo sleeping under a tree Vincent stopped the car to fill us in on all the animals we were seeing. Sure enough, and unfortunately, the rover wouldn't start --obviously alternator issues. Click click click. Luckily another driver happened by and helped tow him/pop the clutch to restart the vehicle. All this near the waking hippo and in sight of elephants coming in our direction. It was a bit nerve wracking the rest of the morning knowing that if the vehicle stalled well... There were many times we didn't see another vehicle for quite a while. Vincent supplied bag breakfasts to all of hard boiled egg, fruit, biscuit, yogurt and juice and he was a real delight. He also stopped (with the car running, of course) to serve us a nice coffee break near some bathrooms and a scenic river complete with elephants. We saw lots of giraffes, elephants and all kinds of antelopes and birds but there were no lions around that day. We arrived a little late for lunch at the Chobe Lodge--beautiful setting, food was just ok (but the monkeys who came at 2 when the buffet closed enjoyed cleaning it up!). Because of the starter problems Vincent told us Cap'n Jack would come pick us up for our water cruise and then deliver us back to the border. Jack was another delightful guy who knew his stuff but, again, the teensy boat was a bit of the shocker and concern. Let's just say we got up REAL close and personal with the crocodiles and if a hippo had a hankering to flip our boat... As stated in another review, he knew exactly where to head to see the animals and get great sunset views. On the drive back to the border I noticed his gas gauge was on E, so that added a new bit of excitement. I just really don't know how to rate this tour. The guides were so personable and knowledgeable, but... . It was a great day but not without (internalized) worry and safety concerns. After I got home I saw another reviewer mentioned the vehicle breaking down. Not good. I probably should lower my rating but I really liked all three guys and in the end we came away with some great stories!
