We did the Real Alaska Tour and loved it. I was hesitant beforehand, however because of the cost and Seward being a 'cruise' town. But we found this tour to be full of activity and felt it was more than worth the price. We were pleasantly surprised at how interesting, informative, yet humorous was the first part where Danny Seavey taught us about the Ididarod and sled dogs. We then went on the ride through the woods and were impressed by our musher, Taran. We returned and received a FREE video of our ride. We learned more about the Ididarod, got to see an actual sled, and then were allowed to hold the PUPPIES! They were seriously so precious (see the picture!!). We then boarded a bus with Daryl who taught us about Seward and its history before having lunch at the cutest cafe downtown. The food was really good too. From the cafe, we went to Exit Glacier. My family hiked the mile up and back to see it. The hike was very doable for an average in-shape person and we thought it was fun. Daryl took our picture at the top for us. From the glacier, we were taken to see the salmon running and then returned to the train depot (or in our case the sled dog home because we drove down). I thought this tour contained a LOT for the price and found each person we interacted with friendly, knowledgable, and skilled. It was one of our very favorite days in Alaska and we would highly recommend it!

We really weren't sure what to expect but went all in knowing we couldn't sit on a boat after sitting on a train for 4 hrs. This was beyond perfect. Our guide, Doug was fabulous. He just had so many great little factoids to share. We started with the dogs. Wonderful team at Seavey's, human and canine alike. And can I just say puppies. The lunch was delicious and ending with a great hike to view Exit Glacier is just amazing. We maxed out our hiking time by doing the 2.7 mile upper and lower overlook loops in just over an hour with plenty of time for photographs throughout. While we are moderate hikers, it was nice to see that the adventure is very accommodating for folks who are low to moderate in the active scale.

You are given information about the races, sled dogs and historic events about dog sledding in Alaska. You pet sled dog puppies and get onto golf carts pulled by dogs who run on a short muddy (it was raining when we were there) pathway.

Fun history, fun ride. Kids loved holding puppies. The guides were great. An unusual and fun summer activity. I would recommend if in the area for a week or more.

This is a very enjoyable to her that I had a great pace. You have plenty of time for each location. The highlight for us was the dog sledding.

We spent 10 days in Alaska this summer and this tour was probably the highlight of our trip! We loved every minute of it!

Our guide, Doug, was a great guide and driver--he had lots of interesting stories and so much knowledge about the local community.

We loved the experience at Seavey's. I wish we could remember the name of the girl who gave our tour and presentation because she was outstanding--we can't say enough about how great she was. We learned a lot about the Iditarod race and how mushers prepare for it. We absolutely loved snuggling those sweet puppies--they fell right asleep in our arms. And the sled dog ride was so fun and such a unique experience! We have been to other sled dog facilities throughout Alaska and this one was by far the best experience we have had.

We lunched at a different restaurant than the tour description said we would with no explanation for why that was. It was fine and the food was good, but it was all the way in downtown Seward and we felt like we lost a lot of time driving there and back.

We enjoyed our time at Exit Glacier, but wish we'd had a little more time there. It felt sort of rushed and no one wants to be the last one back to the bus holding up the group. We talked with the rangers and got our junior ranger badges and did the 1 mile RT hike to the glacier viewpoint, which was beautiful. If we'd had more time we'd have done the more strenuous 2 mile RT hike to get closer.

After leaving the Exit Glacier we visited a salmon stream, which was kind of interesting.

Doug got us back to the railroad station in plenty of time to board the train for our evening departure back to Anchorage! Overall, probably the best tour we took in Alaska this summer and we'd highly recommend!

Overall tour was good with a nice lunch. However at the Seavey's Ididaride while the staff where harnessing the dogs to the carts they were to pull I noticed one dog had a lame hind leg. Despite this the dog was harnessed up. I mentioned this to the woman who had just completed our introductory orientation. She subsequently went to the kennel had a discussion with the woman who harnessed up the dog and then unharnessed the dog and took him back to his kennel. I later asked her what had occurred. She explained that the dog had been lame for a couple of days but didn't explain why he was initially harnessed. Anyway, it seems that they were prepared to run this dog despite his condition without my speaking up. Very concerning.

You are absolutely right, Magnus had a sore foot and was not supposed to be running. However, the way our dogs live - loose in big pens - can make it hard to keep them straight for new staff. We had a new helper who put the wrong dog on the line, and as you saw, the mistake was quickly corrected before the dog actually ran. I noticed it too, and made arrangements to move him to a different location so that can’t happen again before you wrote this review.

This tour was so much fun. As a dog lover, it was so incredible to learn how the dogs are cared for, run and about their overall care. You actually get to play with the dogs and feel like you’re part of the sled team. The lunch and Exit glacier tour were an added bonus!
