You can watch Tebo Pakarati in his studio, a real craftsman, making his exquisite wood carvings, large and small, just opposite the cemetery.

Our tour guide recommended this shop. We went back a few days later and purchased a Moai from the artist. At least we knew we were not getting some piece of junk here. A nice shopping experience and he had some very nice things. It is not cheap so do not go expecting the things you see around the tourist area. A little out of the way near the cemetery.

This is lovely shop featuring carvings and jewellery created by a local Rapa Nui artist. Carvings are available in wood and stone with pieces ranging from 10 cm high to more than a metre tall. Many items feature the culture and mythology of the Rapa Nui people. Everything is handmade in Easter Island and not mass produced in China or elsewhere.
We visited during the low season so the shop was closed. But our tour guide managed to contact the owners and they drove back to town to open the shop for us (!) We didn't exactly see what we were looking for at first so they went into the back room and came out with a box of just started moai pieces. We found the size and stone colour we liked and they agreed to finish the statue for us before we flew home. (Even driving to our hotel to drop it off).
Excellent customer service and friendly people. The carving is beautiful and we were well pleased. Thank you!

This little shop is located close to the cemetery. The wife makes lovely jewelry and the husband is an expert wood carver! Some of the pieces in this shop are the most beautiful carvings I have ever seen! A hugely talented individual.
