No excuses not to visit this if you're in the area!

.... unless it's really wet of course! The layby is right in front of the entrance and within 10m or so of the monument.

As one reviewer has already commented, if you visit the well beyond, you're in for a yappy time from the terrier dogs in the neighbouring property!

As yet another reviewer has already said, this is a required visit if you're Welsh.

Brief Visit, the information tablets were good. It was raining so didn't get to spend a great deal of time here.

Prince Llywelyn grave

This grave is situated in Cilmery and if you walk behind it and down some steps you will come to a well, where they washed Prince Llywelyn's head before sending it off to London.

The little terriers next door will be barking when you visit. You need good sturdy shoes as could be slippy. Steps to go down.

Historic Monument

Near the Prince Inn is a layby by a grassed area. Here is a monument to the last Welsh Prince. Just behind this take steps and through gate to the well where legend has it he's dead body was washed. Llywelyn ap Gruffudd united all independent parts of Wales under his rule. Henry III recognised him as Prince Wallie (Prince of Wales) in 1267 in the Treaty of Montgomery. This spot marks where he dies 11 December 1282. Free entry.

A poignant piece of history

After speaking to the Landlord at The Prince Inn, he recommended we visit Llewelyn Monument, just a short distance away. There's a small layby alongside the Monument so parking is easy. We wandered across the grass and could not believe what we had stumbled on. An amazing snippet of Welsh history! Quite an overwhelming experience. Thank you
