I took my time to walk around the grounds and explore, unfortunately a local teenagers spot to hang out but I understand!! Beautiful ruins in such an urban setting, old and new right next to each other. Well worth a trip as on a large site, then walk up the street to the Market/Meerkat cross

Visited the ruins and the grounds of the Abby, but the visitor centre was closed. The Abbey has been around since e 12th century and named for Saint Winning (also gave his name to the town), but fell into disrepair by the late 16th century. The tall elegant structures that still stand, the grounds and the intact tower all have a romantic feel. A good place for pictures assuming the weather holds up.

Had a lovely afternoon with my daughter going up the tower with lovely gentleman Bernie who knows his stuff about the history & daughter received a certificate & is a free entry. It’s a must to try

this mill is very well preserved. Museum has interesting pieces in it, and gives a good insight as to how people lived in the last century. Goods for children to see

Visited here yesterday but the heritage centre was closed. We just explored the ruins which had plenty of info boards but we seen lots of litter lying around, such a shame people dont care!

This is a ruin but a very interesting one all the same. It’s free, parking is easy and there are some information boards around the site.

This is the first time I’ve been here, what a beautiful old ruin/building, we were so impressed.
Yet another building if it were in a beautiful town/city anywhere in Europe it would have lots of tourists visiting it.
Sad that the old headstones are all down, all except one, have they been knocked over deliberately?
So disheartened with the amount of litter, it was everywhere in these grounds, such a shame, shame on the people who think its ok to drop litter, you should be so proud to have such a beautiful Abby in your town.

Kilwinning Abbey is well worth a visit for the architectural ruins alone.The Abbey is steeped in History from time long ago when St Winning arrived in Kilwinning.The rest they say is History. Well worth a visit in my view.

I visited the abbey ruins very recently and was upset by all the rubbish in the grounds plus an overturned wheelie bin. Names had been carved into the stonework and despite the sign ‘No dogs’, a youth was walking his dog through the remains of the cemetery and it cocked its leg up every gravestone as it went. This town appears rundown in parts but I think more ought to be done to protect this ruin.

A grand remains of an interesting structure in the heart of this small town. Got some lovely photos and learnt of the history of the monks who once lived there. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
