Impressive unusual brick castle tower and historic church
oct. de 2021
Very early brick built castle with good views, and spacious church nearby containing rare monumental brasses.
We drove there in our motorhome. On arrival there were lots of overhanging tree branches on the approach road and in the car park. These kept catching and scraping the roof making maneuvering difficult. Pruning back to allow a pathway for high vehicles very recommended.

The castle construction is fascinating as its built from local brick, and was surprised they had the skill and number of bricklayers needed for such a large project in the 15 century.
The spiral staircase was a bit tricky to climb if you meet someone comming the other way. An inner hand rail would improve safety.

Quite enjoyable visit.

The church has quite a chequered history, being left derelict in the past. The brasses are interesting because not many survived Cromwell.
As we are NT members, can't comment on if admission charges are reasonable.

Castle with Eagle eye views.

Beautiful site and picnic area. Very much for adults or older children that find history appealing.
All the floors leading up to the roof top had information covering the history and its activity or purpose. Well enjoyed and if you can make it up to the top without feeling light headed, the views are well amazing and spectacular.

Church castle and cake with views!
oct. de 2021
Just recovering from a blood clot so wasn’t sure I’d manage the 5 floors but met a lady who had a kidney transplant months ago and she did it so. I DID! Took my time and the view was worth it, got hubby to go up first to see what it was like ! So chuffed. Not much furniture in but warm! The reception also had lots of books in which I like, and a very pleasant young lady working there. You can so go in the church just before the castle beautiful stained glass windows, a place to be quiet and they also had nice bits of cakes to buy! Yum!

Great visit

Lovely place to visit with family. Lots of history behind this castle, with the story told inside. Climb up the 149 steps to see the stunning view from the top. Dogs are also allowed in the grounds and in the shop which is great as it is a lovely place to walk around.

Pleasant stop

The only toilets are to the left before you pay to enter. Lovely unusual brick built castle with two moats, a guard house/shop/reception and ruins of outbuildings. Inside the castle it's as it was when repaired and a new roof was put on. Rooms are mainly bare but some have a few pieces of furniture in and there are some tapestries. The church next door and the information about bats was interesting.

A little history
ago. de 2021
The castle has been restored and it is interesting to learn how it was lived in & used. The grounds have plenty of space to sit & have a picnic but there is no café on site albeit there is a mobile coffee retailer. Worth a visit

Great place, fantastic views. No cafe on site but does have toilets.
Highlight was watching the Eurofighters take off from the RAF base next door and practice their skills from the top of the castle. A free airshow !!!!!!.

Great Views

One of England's first brick built structures and it has survived intact to this day externally. The views from the top across South Lincolnshire are impressive and this is a good place to visit for the odd hour or so
