We had a fabulous time with Captain Karl aboard his beloved Mahiya! He took us (2 adults and 3 teens) to some amazing snorkel spots, fed us the yummiest lunch and snacks and taught us all about the island. He had to reschedule our initial date (which was no problem) and because of that, we missed heading out to Lime Out for tacos since they are closed on Saturdays...he texted the next day and ended up meeting up with us again and bringing us out to Lime Out on his dinghy. That was really above and beyond, for which we were so appreciative. Highly recommend sailing and snorkeling with Karl - it was the highlight of our vacation!!

Capt Karl was nice and personable. He was a little late picking us up and then had problems with the motor on his zodiac not starting and we actually had to get towed to the cat by another boat so our start time was further delayed. To his credit, he did add time on the end to compensate for it. The boat is small there were 5 of us and I think really only 2 more ppl could fit with it still being comfortable. From the pictures I had thought it would be bigger.
As we were the only ppl we got to request a stop at the Lime Out Taco bar at the end for lunch. He said he provided snacks but it was just cut up pineapple and some coconut cookies; wish it had been a little more extensive. Drinks both with and without booze were available. It was a nice day.

We sailed aboard Mahiya with Karl and it was the unanimous highlight of the vacation according to teens, parents, and one grandparent who isn’t the strongest swimmer. Even a rain shower didn’t dampen the sailing day, and we had the best snorkeling of the week hands-down. The vibe was relaxing, the music was soothing, and the lunch was delicious! Do yourself a favor and schedule a sail.

My family went for a sunset sail. Captain Karl was great. He had a lot of interesting info and history to share about the island and told us about some great hidden gems to explore around the island. We had a blast. Very highly recommended!

Our family of four had an amazing half day trip on the beautiful Mahiya. As we sailed out of Coral Bay, Captain Karl spoke about the ecology and history of St. John. Our snorkeling destination was LeDuck Island. We got a quick rundown on what we would should look for underwater, a few snorkeling tips and ideas for a route. The water was so clear and the fish and coral were beautiful. On the sail back to Coral Bay, we enjoyed the sunning ourselves on the fore trampolines. It was so relaxing! The snacks and beverages were delicious. Karl provided many recommendations for hikes, restaurants and additional snorkeling spots. This sailing trip was the highlight of our weeklong adventure in St. John! We plan to sail with Captain Karl on our next trip!

Family/Friend group of ten, all 20 plus years old. Karl was full of information about the island. One of the few sail boats that is based in Coral Bay. Gives you different snorkel options from most of the boats that are based in Cruz Bay. The boat is not as big as some of the other boats we've been on. However, there was ample room for our 10 adults. We planned on hitting Lime Out in the afternoon. They never opened because there was a tropical storm in area. Karl arranged to meet up with us a couple of days later and shuttled us out for a fantastic lunch at Lime Out. Above and beyond what many people would do. 100% plan to book with him again on our next trip to St. John.

If you are looking for a relaxing day sail out of Coral Bay with a St John knowledgeable captain, Carl on his boat Mahiya, should satisfy your needs. Got my fix of sailing with the accompanying wind, sun, and relaxation I was seeking, as I’m not a fan of sailing charters that motor the majority of the trip. Two nice snorkel stops, good lunch, and an interactive captain not annoyed with my a many questions. Thanks—-Gustafson/Works families

We are very grateful to have been able to spend a full day on the Mahiya with Captain Karl. We so enjoyed the food, the drinks, and most of all, his knowledge and conversation. He took us some very special snorkeling spots and saw some spectacular sealife. His dedication to conservation was admirable and we learned so much about the island. I'd book another day sail with him in a heartbeat.

This was my second voyage with Captain Karl on the Mahiya, 5 years apart. And this did not disappoint! Captain Karl is a very methodical sailor. Safety comes first. He cares about the environment and the ecology of the island. The vessel is beautiful and guests have ample space to find a comfy spot en route to and from the snorkeling spots. This time around, we saw a Manta with over a 10-ft span. My sister and the Captain saw this magnificent creature sail out of the water. It was a magical moment we will cherish for the rest of our lives. The snorkeling spots are guaranteed to elicit amazing views of the life below. Both times I’ve sailed on Mahiya, we were generously offered island concoctions and snacks. Captain Karl is incredibly smart and his love for the island comes right through. We are grateful he has found a niche in sharing his expertise with people like us! 5 stars!!

This was a very relaxing way to explore Coral Bay at St. John. Captain Karl is extremely knowledgeable and never seem to get tired of my endless amount of questions.
