This is a small area of the coastline in Mendocino. The road is probably about a mile long with many stop and park areas. It is also just a short walk from the village of Mendocino. We were so fortunate to see this amazing stretch of coastline in fog and bright sunshine.

Close-up views of stunning rock formations and sea foam you won’t want to miss. Easy access. Park in one of the lots and walk the short paths to the overlooks that bring you very close to the edge of cliffs to experience the magnificent Mendocino coastline.

This is an amazing park. Easy parking, walkable from downtown Mendocino, gorgeous views, dog friendly. I wore hiking boots and glad I did because we wanted to walk along the optional rocky edge. You can make the walk easy by going just to a couple of the outcrops. Then you can make it a little challenging and take some standy uneven stairs down to the sandy beach (you have to take them back up too) or you can turn right and walk more rocky elevated terrain for more amazing, unobstructed views.

Like much of this California Coast, the Headlands walk was beautiful in sun or fog. It adjoins the town, detracting a bit from the "wild" or "remoteness" gained from other areas, but is a pretty stroll and easily accessible.

The park runs along the Mendocino coast line and is a medium walk from downtown Mendocino. There are three parking areas if you drive over to it. The walking paths extend the length of the park and you can get up and close to the cliffs and tide pools.
There are many different things to see. There are tall islands surrounded by crashing waves. We saw an arch and several places where beaches were formed. All the waves and action just make you want to sit and watch for hours.

Located right next to the village, this is a great place for an easy, scenic walk along the coast. And it's dog-friendly, so a good place to bring your furry friend.

The scenery was incredible -- huge rocks of various shapes, pounded by the surf, with many birds on top (we did not see other wildlife on the rocks). We stopped by when we first got to town for a quick look and end up spending an hour and a half walking around and taking pictures. We went back each day and enjoyed it. It is a short drive from downtown and had some other people, but not that many (weekdays in September). It is free, easy to get to, easy to park, easy walking. Go.

Walked down some steep stairs to a sweet little beach on the headlands…no one there but us! Enjoyed the solitude.

This is a beautiful, very accessible coastal park marred only by a giant concrete box plonked down on the inner shore.

Although different people may have varying opinions, if I was looking for a very scenic 5-7 total mile hike in Headlands, which trail would you recommend as a can't miss scenic & memorable trail to experience? Love forests, waterfalls, & living in CO as I do, don't get to see much water.

Yes! Start at mckerriker state park hiking up the coast you will see tide pools ,breeding grounds for seals, up to the sand dunes and back. One could go for a long hike to 10 mile river. It's beautiful coastal trip. Then if one wants another hike go to the Mendocino headlands and check out the options there.
