The castle has stunning rooms and is well worth a visit. However: don't expect the normal stately home tea room, the one here is very formal, very expensive and apparantly needs to be booked - we were offered take away sandwiches.

The gardens are an RHS partner garden so fortunately we got 2 for 1 entry: quite the worst garden I have ever paid to see. In the rose garden every bush needed dead heading, no labels anywhere. Distinct lack of flowers anywhere else too. Japanese garden so called apprantly because of tatty Japanese style metal benches was basically an unkempt woodland walk with the occasional acer. Lack of signs meant we wandered around trying to find the exit until we managed to flag down an estate car.

My daughter and I had a lovely afternoon out at Belvoir Castle on 27th June 2022. However, a week later (to the day) I received a parking fine in the post, I appealed as we had paid our parking bill to be told appeal was declined due to underpayment. The car park has ANPR so it is reasonable to assume that the machine clocks up your parking fee when you pay. The signage is so unclear and we were confident that we had paid the correct amount due to all other car parks totalling your fee when they have cameras. Initial parking appear to be deliberately trying to swindle customers by making their signage as complicated as possible to understand! I am both amazed and more than a little surprised that a concern such as Belvoir Castle employ such a band of crooks to manage their parking, apparently they were having talks with initial parking last August when someone complained about the same issue (there have been many cases) this has obviously not yet been done almost a year later. I tried to obtain an email address to complain to Belvoir Castle direct and was sent a list of email addresses for everything other than complaints! Shame on you Belvoir Castle, your parking & your customer service lets you down greatly!

Visit marred by poor signage and unhelpful staff, never again
I visited last Wednesday with three friends and the first half of our visit was very enjoyable as we enjoyed the rose garden and Duchess garden. On the return to the car park a different way we had great difficulty in following the signage and ended up going down several blind alleys as the map was ridiculously stylized and could not be followed. There are no signposts at many junctions. This was very frustrating and tiring.
We asked two different security men in hi-viz to assist but neither of them really knew where we were, even though one radioed in. This is fair enough if they are short term contracted but the base people should know the topography of the area. A local man who lived on site gave us some reasonably clear instructions to an electric exit gate. The security man there could not tell us which gate we were at, so I rang reception.
Person I spoke to attempted to work it out and got told as we were Sligo gate but in fact we were at the diametric opposite end of the park.
I am no spring chicken and have a medical problem and by this time was feeling exhausted with the retracing steps up and down steep slopes and was starting to feel seriously worried about my ability to get back to the car. I feel staff should have shown some concern about the age group they were dealing with and offered to help in a more practical way.
Finally a motorist entering into the gate told us the way back to the car park and I had to wait for my friends to bring the car to the gate ,the name of which I still do not know.
I think there is scope for some staff training in assisting visitors and offering some assistance to people who may have mobility or health issues. I also think it is unreasonable that there is no food and drink available in the castle grounds making it difficult to get necessary refreshments.
Needless to say I will not be visiting ever again as I feel that management are not bothered about the comfort and safety of the guests.
On speaking to various friends I discovered they have also had negative experiences with the signage and unhelpfulness of staff.
We feel justifiably annoyed and upset at how the day was spoilt by these events.

Firstly a very nice place to visit, but after receiving a parking fine for £100 makes me wonder why we bothered. We paid for 2 hrs parking and received 1 hour free as well as £18 each for entry into the castle and gardens. It appears that parking starts as soon as you enter the car park and not when you park or buy your ticket, therefore I went over my allotted parking time. As many others have commented it's a farce and I know that Belvoir do not involve themselves in parking appeals but these continuous bad comments must lead them to review their overall customer experience model.

Thoroughly enjoyable tour of Castle with Olivia, a wonderful guide.

You need to be reasonably fit to have a lengthy tour of the gardens - quite a climb in parts. But there is a small coach doing occasional rounds. We took the former option.

Servants' Hall for tea/coffee; tasty traybakes. More upmarket tearoom available also.

Craft shops adjacent worth a visit.

The Ministry did a good job as usual. I was looking forward to the venue but I was disappointed by a number of factors. The castle was not well signposted and the sat nav postcode they gave led to a gate that was shut. When we found the ticket office car park we asked as advised for a parking permit to go up to the castle with our taxi. The man in high vis who first stopped us knew nothing about it but we went to the ticket office who provided a map and code for the gate. The map was too simplistic to follow. We passed another car park for the dogfest with high vis attendant who was rude and knew absolutely nothing about the access again. When we did find the gate there were two key pads and the attendant came running from somewhere else to assist.
The toilets and the castle shut at four o'clock so we never made it inside.
It was rough terrain where the stalls were and some of the paths were tricky for the wheelchair.
Getting back down to the carpark at the bottom was tricky as the road was not well sign posted and was so steep we had to be helped by some passing steampunks. The carpark surface was very uneven and needed repairing. Getting to the engine yard was dicey as there was no pavement leading to their car park so we had to go in the road. Again we needed extra assistance from passers by. Better signage and more thought for those with a mobility impairment would have made for a much better day.

I visited Belvoir castle with my 86 year old mother. We had a lovely day, paid for two entry tickets and meal for two. We parked in car park at main entrance and my mother 86 had to go all the way up steep drive way with severe stoop. However , we managed . I paid also for car park ticket and have just today found I have been fined £100 because they claim I didn’t pay car park when I did !!! This very aggressive behaviour I did not expect from Belvoir castle which I have often visited in the past. I can inform you . I will NOT be visiting again and I believe this aggressive car parking company you are using will severely dent your reputation and lose many customers. Very short term foolish idea !!!

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to review. We do have disabled parking at the top of the hill near the castle which we are happy to provide for anyone who may have difficulty walking up the hill. The ticket machines rely on each driver to know when they entered the car park and to calculate the amount of time that needs to be paid for, please contact info@initialparking.com to appeal your fine. Thank you

Attended a Steampunk event at the castle, first time one held there. Was a lovely day, the Steampunk organisers did a fab job but hindered by castle organisers. The interior of the castle is lovely and one way system in place. Lovely little cafe, we had sandwiches and tea as we thought the full afternoon tea was very expensive. Facilities were immaculate, very clean. There is a mini bus trip around the gardens, not many takers, think they are missing a trick. They should go from bottom car park as there is a very steep climb to the castle. I think more people would join the tour if it was includedAttended a Steampunk event at the castle, first time one held there. Stunning grounds with a beautiful castle, but primarily we came here for the Ministry of Steampunk's Saturday itinerary.

Good stuff first: we got plenty of time to explore the grounds (for more on why, see the below); the rose gardens are lovely especially in this summer clime, and the castle itself has a lot of character. You can easily spend the best part of a day walking around the various gardens in good weather. Staff were very nice and helpful and the steampunk community are a lovely lot, it was good to see them.

Bad stuff: the steampunk event was pretty lacklustre. Only a handful of vendors were on the main lawn, one of which was a street food stall - were we missing something? I'm glad the £21 ticket covered the admission to the grounds and house, but even then we thought it was expensive. If you're into steampunk, I would recommend Blists Hill in Telford when they've got their weekend on - same price, far more immersive and lively. Perhaps event organisations are still reeling from the difficulties of COVID, or maybe because Belvoir is a family home there are more restrictions, but we left after a couple of hours and felt it was a bit of a wasted trip.

(Now I've read the whole shebang about the parking, I can only cross my fingers and hope we don't get anything through the door - we followed all instructions but this is a really common theme of these reviews!)

Lovely visit but like many other people it was ruined by a parking fine even though I had purchased a ticket.
The signage is totally confusing I entered my car reg & the machine just said thank you for your visit which was confusing so I tried several times & got the same message so I put money in for the amount of time I thought I had been there as bizarrely the machine does not show your arrival time ( never ever experienced this on a parking meter !) After inserting coins for the length of time I'd been parked the machine again thanked me for my visit & gave me a ticket so I assumed all ok, then today I receive a fine for £100 which has ruined what was a lovely day out.
I have read reviews from way back to October 2020 where Belvoir have said they were looking into this & making the signage clearer but this is not the case as I wasn't the only person confused at the machine. Surely the solution is the machine just tells you exactly what you owe & then there is no argument but then of course the parking company can't cash in on innocent people!
It has left a bad taste as we travelled nearly 2 hours each way just to visit Belvoir so with petrol as well it has been a very expensive day out.
I know there is no point appealing from reading other reviews.
I don't think Belvoir are doing themselves any favours by using this parking company as it will stop people returning & also recommending it .
