For those of us interested in industrial design and operation this is a wonderful opportunity. After a decommissioning a few years ago the upper deck of the facility is now open on a regular basis for viewing. Safe for people of all ages. On the Saturday that my wife and I visited we enjoyed talking with a knowledgeable volunteer about the history of the milling district and the operation of the lock and dam. No cost.

Stopped by and the visitors center was closed but still easy enough to see and enjoy. Interesting to see.

This is something that you can look at that is away from most people for the social distancing aspect of things. It’s nice to look at and there are signs to read.

I had never seen a lock in person and it was very interesting to see it though I did not get to see it in action. The waterfall created in this area is lovely to view as well. A nice place for a walk.

Een indrukwekkende hoeveelheid water. Vrijwilligers geven duidelijke uitleg en je kunt vragen stellen. Mooi uitzicht.

We merely thought we would drive down by the locks and turn around. What a pleasant surprise to find that we could walk right into the area and go up on the observation deck and even over right next to the dam. There was signage explaining the history of the area and how the locks and dam work. We had the place to ourselves. Certainly an interesting and enjoyable find.

I came across this while out on a run. It's nice to watch the water rushing through this area. The river was supposed to flood so there were quite a few photographers camped there.

You can see the lock from the bridge over the river going from Minneapolis to St. Paul. There is access to it beneath the bridge. There is a little island (most of the time) where fisherfolk gather to toss out a line.

While on the Twin Cities Trolley I took excellent photos of this fine example of riverway engineering from the Ford Parkway Bridge (aka Intercity Bridge). Of course, you can't stop on the bridge, so that's not what you'd call a perfect vantage point.
