This small but information packed museum details the struggles that the people of Greenville went through during the massive Mississippi Flood in 1927.
A good place to stop for a thorough history of the event.

This may be a small building with selective items on display, but if you are lucky enough to get a really knowledgeable 'storyteller' who can impart the back ground to this horrendous event, then, like me, you will be enthralled by what this town lived through and survived. They also do a small but informative leaflet to peruse once you get home. Don't leave town without a visit!

The museum has been closed for some time apparently due to Covid 19. Talked to a nearby policeman who said there were no plans to reopen in the near future. Note: most of the museums in Greenville are now closed.

Went to the flood museum of Greenville Mississippi and it is a nice but small museum, however the movie did a wonderful job with explaining what happened to the town and it's residents.

A view of history many don't know or want to know. The flood made the next president while it showed how truly bad African Americans were treated by local officials

There's not a lot to see in Greenville, so if your cruise stops there, you'll probably consider dropping in here. If you do, you'll learn of the Mississippi flood of 1927 which Greenville is still trying to recover from. You'll also learn of some of the worst examples of man's inhumanity to man in the way that the African American workers were left to die. It's not for those with delicate emotions.

I called Saundra who came within 30 minutes to open up the museum- please call prior to arriving. She is passionate about the flood and Delta. I read “Tide Rising” which is all about the Delta flooding in 1927.

This is a small, one-room museum. There are only a few, maybe 100 things, to see and only a couple are really unique and interesting. However, I did like the PBS video on the flood of 1927. The story is of course difficult to appreciate because it suggest the blacks were not treated well. I don’t know what is fact and what is fiction but I do believe it was a difficult time for everyone in this town.

You would not make a special trip just to see this facility; however, if you are in Greenville this is one of three stops to make. [The other two stops (all almost next to each other) are the History Museum and the Hebrew Union Temple Museum.]

Stopped here as part of an American Steamboat tour. Read the other reviews.

If you are in town, make this museum a stop

There is a film, not without controversy, on the flood on 1927 and the devistating impact on the people of the area, especially those of color, or otherwise poor. This movie include film clips of the flood and the aftermath. Interviews with people, share the attitude before and after the flood. The massive suffering after the flood is covered directly. The facility housing this museum is very modest. No one comes out of the building laughing, smiling or feeling good.
