The Stag Portland sign is an iconic emblem of the city’s identity, perched high above downtown Portland. Originally installed in 1940, the neon sign first featured the outline of the state of Oregon and the words “White Stag Sportswear,” representing the brand’s headquarters that were housed in the building beneath it. The sign was one of the first large-scale advertisements in Portland and quickly became a famous landmark.
In 1959, the leaping stag was added to reflect the White Stag logo, transforming the sign into an even more distinctive feature of Portland. When White Stag moved out in 1973, the sign’s text was changed to “Made in Oregon” to advertise a local chain of stores.
By 2006, the future of the sign was uncertain as ownership changes and disputes over the sign’s maintenance led to concerns it might be dismantled. Fortunately, citizens helped preserve it, and in 2010, the sign was updated to read simply “Portland Oregon.”
Gotta see the sign. It’s the touristy thing to do.

Was a cool sign to view. Also know it lights up at night, which we thought was the time to go view. View from a few streets away or across the river if being close to the unhoused & next to busy streets bothers you that much. This will become one of their landmarks going forward I believe.

Portland Oregon sign is the famous sightseeing spot in Portland. I visited in the morning and regretted not seeing the neon lights in the night, but it’s also my favorite in Portland. Hope I can see it in the night in the future.

It's a cool sign, especially when it's lit up at night. But there isn't much to do aside from look at it and my advice is to just look from the car. You can see it from the Burnside Bridge just fine.
I'm not one to harp on the homeless issue, but there are a bunch of homeless in the area and they're confrontational. The neighborhood is littered with trash and graffiti and it just doesn't feel terribly safe and walkable.

Drove around trying to get a good vantage point of the sign. Turns out Burnside bridge is where you want to be.

I was in Portland June and July of 2022. I was confronted by Drug users, filth and rubbish everywhere. The drug camps on the streets and sidewalks had open buckets human waste and garbage were there anyone to step in. The bus stops and public transportation were covered in filth! Humans sitting in their own poo and pee, talking to themselves and covered in vomit. This was not a one off. It was sadly all too common. The drug needles littering the streets were a real danger. Do not waste your time or your money going to Portland Oregon. Not safe for families.

The once iconic sign used to serve as welcome to a truly fun and eclectic city. Now it is just a beacon for the homeless. The city is absolutely filthy. There are mentally-ill drug abusing derelicts roaming the streets begging for change. The sad part is that many of them appear to be able-bodied young adults. You can't even walk down the sidewalk in many areas because they are covered with tents and garbage. Crime has become common. During my visit yesterday, my wife and I witnessed several individuals in the commission out in the open in broad daylight. There were no PPB visible anywhere in the downtown core. It has become almost cliché to refer to such things as typical of third world countries. I've spent about half of my life growing up and working in such places. Even third world countries don't allow this insanity to take place in their cities. Anyone considering a vacation to Portland should reconsider and go someplace better. Oh, and a note to Portlanders, you don't have to put up with this. Even animals know better than to live in their own filth. Get better city leadership.

Fun photo op and the sign itself is huge - you can’t miss it! However it’s located on top of a building so it’s hard to actually stop and get a sign unless you make a special trip - it’s not just a “pull over and jump out” situation. It was also extremely crowded with transient individuals when we went so we opted to just take pics as we drove by. It’s beautiful lit up at night!

I visited Portland a years ago during the eclipse and at the time thought it was a beautiful city! Unfortunately this trip I was sadly disappointed! The homeless have absolutely destroyed the beauty it once exuded! It now easily Tijuana, Mexico. Huge homeless camps everywhere, abandoned boats, cars, trailers on the streets. Never seen so many tarp camps in my life! Truly disgusting and heartbreaking, it now looks like a third world country! All aspirations I had to one day retire here have definitely been crushed!

The fall foliage partly did obscure the sign. This is beside the Waterfront park and thus if in the area, you could plan to spend a few minutes walking along the river. There is nothing much else in the area, you'll need to walk a few minutes to the Chinatown area or the Pearl District if you are looking for dining options or other activities nearby.

I google mapped this location and I don't see the sign on the street view. This looks like a residential street with the university around there. Is the address given here correct? 70 NW couch st?
