The best dive shop in the Caribbean.

The boat sank!!!! So we contacted the owner Alan Silverstein who lives in NYC to get reimbursed for our lost cell phones and he was a real jerk. Now he's calling and harassing me because when I told him that we would have to take him to court. Called PADI to tell them that they may want to reconsider being involved with Alan Silverstien their answer was, "We don't dictate how each dive shop is run." In other words, there is no oversight!!! BEWARE..... Do Not Dive Here!!!!

On Feb 14th of this year, four of us went diving at Canouan Dive Center. About 30 min into the trip we noticed that the stern was riding very low and the boat was taking on a lot of water. As we all started jumping in the water to start our dive, the boat capsized!

The owner, Alan Silverstein, put a boat into operation without checking to make sure it had a functioning bilge pump. The pump never turned on and the vessel took on too much water to stay afloat. To add insult to injury, we all lost our cell phones and they are refusing to pay for any of our personal affects. So we are all out hundreds of dollars because of Alan Silverstein's disregard for safety. This is a terrible operation and should be avoided at all costs. I have attached pictures that someone took with an underwater go-pro during the event. This could have been a lot worse if we were farther off shore. Luckily, we had a near by sailboat that came to our rescue.

Alan Silverstein (owner of Canouan Dive Center) lives in New York. He has not been to the business in over 2 years to check on the safety of the operation. He has one concern, and that is money. What a horrible way to conduct business, and it ultimately showed by him sinking a boat with paying passengers on board.

Nice setup with professional staff, Caribbean diving seems to be interesting but not mind blowing. But beautiful settings flat seas and interesting micro life.

Had the wonderful opportunity to dive with the great folks of Canouan Scuba (Dive) Center during our stay at Palm Island in the southern Grenadines. They would come each morning to retrieve us from the dock at Palm Island all the way from Canouan Island promptly at 9 a.m., always on-time and ready to go each day. They operate the southern Grenadines for dive and snorkel excursions and even could probably hook you up on a fishing adventure. The boat, My Passion, is perfect for a small dive group. There are only tank slots for 14 tanks, so you are going to have a small group with very personalized service. Rental gear is available if you don't have your own.

We dove the areas around the beautiful islands of Mayreau and the Tobago Cayes where the reefs and the water are pristine and clear. As promised we saw at least "a fish". Actually this is probably one of the most prolific and diverse reef "fisheries" I have seen in the Caribbean. Absolutely spectacular diving. Depending on what face of the reef you are on, you may have some current, but nothing severe enough that even a solid novice diver couldn't handle.

What made the trips outstanding was the level of service and personal attention that we received from our two fabulous dive "buddies", Angie and Vaughn who took turns leading us on several wonderful dives. We had such a great time diving, laughing and joking together, it was almost like we were life-long friends. They were on mark with safety and pre-dive briefings, kept our gear overnight between dives, dried and cleaned and arrived each day with everything set up and ready to go.

On our last diving day with them, we arranged for a single tank dive and snorkel trip to the Tobago Cays. Diving with Angie and the sea turtles in the Cays and hiking up Baradol Island was truly amazing. The views from atop Baradol looking toward the "Pirates of the Caribbean" backdrop and the beautiful Grenadine islands to the north is a must do. Vaughn had arranged for lunch in Mayreau. We arrived in Saltwhistle Bay on the north side of Mayreau to dine with the good folks at Black Boy and Debbie right there on the beach. The food was excellent, the grilled chicken was spiced just right, the curry conch was amazing, and the rest of the fixins were unbelievable. Beer and soft drinks were available as well. This was hands down the best meal of the trip and easily the most authentic and delicious Caribbean fare I have ever had.

If you are ever in the southern Grenadines, I cant' recommend these guys highly enough. They are a top-notch group to dive with and delivered a personalized wonderful series of diving adventures. We enjoyed our time with Angie and Vaughn so much that we are already planning our return visit to the Grenadines to include some quality diving time with our new found friends in Canouan.
