Walking the lakeshore path around Lake Geneva is the best way to experience all of the scenery, beautiful homes, the lake, and gorgeous landscaping. It takes between 9 to 11 hours to hike the whole lake. Be sure to allow extra time if you stop to eat at any of the restaurants along the way. Also to note that bathrooms are limited. The path is different depending on how the individual owners want to create the path in front of their property. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes or hiking boots.
If you don't want to hike the whole lake, you may do sections of it. Please know that some areas have private roads, and you will need to access the path by public areas. Williams Bay is a good place to get on the path as there is free parking across from the beach area.

The Lake Geneva Shore path is beautiful and has a variety of trail surfaces. Each property owner is required to maintain the trail where it crosses their frontage. Unfortunately, we found several sections where the trail was not well maintained with rotten boards and bridges which had failed. Most folks could probably navigate these sections but they appear to be a safety hazard.

It's awesome to be able to walk right along the lake, passing right in front of some truly gorgeous homes. The full trip around would take most of a day, but there are several places to park and just walk as long as you want to go. Wear sturdy shoes, as the terrain changes and can be muddy, narrow, and uneven in spots, but there's not much elevation change so you don't need to be an avid hiker. Plenty of benches along the way if you want to stop and watch the boats on the water.

The lake was very small/crowded, hard to find parking... too many people just sitting and staring at the lake. The beach area was very tiny, not sure why there's a hype about this area... there's nothing special here it's very far and very lame and boring ...most people who live here are old white people who are very boring and have nothing fun going on here. They don't have that many restaurants either and their bakeries closed too soon. The boat rides also were booked and closed for the day. The water was dirty and smelly

This is a really great path to see all of the beautiful homes up close and personal. The path's pavement changes, so wear good shoes!

My husband and I started at the George William campus at Williams Bay. In reading other reviews the south side of Geneva Lake is rugged with uneven surface and more steps up/down. We left at 7am and finished at 5:30pm with a lunch picnic and brief stops every 2 hours. We are 58 and 59 and took our dog on a lease. Taking the dog slowed us a bit, however our 15 month dog is full of energy and waded in the lake two times to cool off. I will repeat that the LG country club steers you to Woodland road or drive. The signage for the path is there, however, this half mile or so is NOT on the lakeshore, it is residential and you walk across a bridge and across a driveway. If we did it again, I would hug the lakeshore at this spot. Beautiful day, we used the only official open rest room facility in downtown LG. I downloaded the app from the LG visitor web-site. It was free. The estates and heavily wooded parts of the path were my favorite. We took backpacks with snacks and water. The trail has significant pedestrian traffic the mile before and after LG, Wear good walking shoes! Gnats were everywhere unless there was a breeze.

So many neighborhoods and beautiful houses to see along this beautiful lake. Very appreciative that owners allow visitors to do the shore walk all around the lake to enjoy the views of both the lake and the architecture.

This path is great. It's amazing that they have a nice walking path over all this private property that goes all around the lake. it gives you a chance to view all the expensive homes. We were staying in Lake Geneva so started there and one day went a bit to the left and one day a bit to the right.

Nice views of the lake, homes, and the docks. Great for hiking and exercising even though the trail varies from rocky, dirt, possibly mud on rainy days, and stepping stones. Nice to go ok the summer day and the mansion homes were the nice to look at.

Just did the entire shore walk at once. Our GPS watch showed just shy of 23 miles and it took us 7 hrs 15 min which included 2 bathroom stops. Beautiful, lots to look at. Your walking on grass, gravel, dirt paths, gravel, concrete, stepping stones. I would recommend doing this. We were very sore afterwards but felt accomplished.

Should you have two cars if you are walking a portion of the trail so one is at the place you are getting off trail? Or Ubers available?

Is there transportation back if you can’t walk the whole 21 miles around Lake Geneva?
To walk the shore path around lake geneva, can I start somewhere, walk an hour or so, then stay in bed and breakfast, or hotels along the way, is that possible to do, to complete the whole round trip

I know there is not a parking lot at Chapin Road, but is there street parking or is it posted “no parking”?

The road dead-ends at the lake. There isn't a shoulder, nor are there any parking spaces. It's just a narrow road. You'd basically be parking in the street and be at risk of getting towed if someone calls the police to complain. I don't live on the road and cannot tell you if there is signage. You can always drive down there and then make your own judgement call. To be safe and not have the worry about your car while you hike, you can park in Williams Bay or Lake Geneva where there are plenty of parking spaces and easy access to the lakeshore path. Enjoy your hike! It's beautiful!
Are the restrooms open at Geneva on the Lake beach open?

The restrooms were open when we were there. I do not know if they are open year round. I feel sure that they will be open in the fall, because that is the perfect time of the year to be there.

There's parking at Edgewater Park across the street from Cafe Calamari and Harpoon Willies. There's also parking across the street from the beach and near the boat launch area.

Unknown if public toilets are open? The State of Wisconsin was on stay in place orders until a couple days ago.
Are there many places to stop and tour or visit while on the path?

Hi!
Stops on the path for the public are few and far between and only at the entry and exit points. Those points are on my post. So no, there are not many places to stop. Most of the time you'll be hiking next to private property and can't exit at any of those. I recommend you decide how much TIME you will hike, do half of it and turn around. If you want to know more about the entire path and distances between stops, Google this: "Geneva Lake: Hiking all 23 miles of shoreline." You'll find more details.
