I did a lot of research to find a lodge in Patagonia that would accommodate my fly fishing passion and entertain my family as well. I learned about Lu Warner, the owner and head guide of Valle Bonito, on line and found him to be incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. He arranged a customized trip that included horse back riding, rafting, fly fishing and a New Year's traditional lamb barbecue cooked by his neighbor for family and friends. We were the only touristas there--but heartily welcomed! Lu even booked our transportation from Puerto Montt to the lodge. Lu turned out to be not only a world class fisherman, but an enthusiastic host, story teller and all around great guy. We had great fishing, both river and lake, wonderful food and a spectacular time. I'm sorry if I sound over the top, but the whole week was just that, one of those vacations you come back from and say, "Was that real?" My two daughters--11 and 19--and my wife felt it was equally special and we look forward to a return trip. The photos above do not do justice to the beauty and character of this lodge--or its spectacular setting. I've included a few of my own to help out, but trust me, it is gorgeous. Valle Bonito is an undiscovered gem. Book it as a fishing lodge or a family lodge or both. It won't remain undiscovered for long.…
Lu Warner has found a piece of Heaven in the valleys of Chile. Valle Bonito sits on a beautiful creek in a pristine valley. The lodge is very nice and the accomodations in the two cabins are all that you could wish for. This is the wilderness and to have good meals cooked by Miguelina on a wood stove is a special treat. Appetizers and fine Malbec on the porch in the evening after a long days fishing caps a great day. We had wonderful weather in late February, cool in the morning and warm sunny days. Fishing is challenging but rewarding if you listen to Lu . In 8 days, we boated 176 big ( 2-4lb)rainbows and browns. my hand hurt for 2 weeks from fighting the fish. These are certainly not the same trout that you find in the states. They are smart , wild and very tough fighters. Lu Warner is an excellent guide, great guy and now a good friend. He told us exactly what to expect and it was exactly as he had portrayed it. Dan and I had a great trip and we have fished all over the world. I plan to go back and take friends to a truly unique experience.…
