We’d heard about this and these gems, just hadn’t dropped in thus far....The welcome was truly awesome, Frits out on the drive as we arrived with our caravan, shortly followed by the splendid Debbie!....So genuinely engaging, respectful and helpful.... beautiful people There’s much on offer here quite apart from the very relaxed extensive rural environment with river and pool.. The artful rustic lounge gallery (Frits’ prised collectibles) complete with fully set up mini entertainment/band stage...muso’s beware, Frits may just open this area up and demo his skills...def a Beatles man...not to mention Debbies unlimited knowledge of Euro wines Their fascinatingly vibrant life journey has brought them to Mt Lyford, be prepared for a very cool time with these two thanks for a great stay…

We had a lovely couple of days here at this new hidden gem for caravan travellers to park up, with plans afoot for a food van in the future too. Debbie and Frits are lovely hosts who might, if you're lucky, drop in and entertain you with tales of their many adventures. 'The barn' is filled with collector's pieces reflecting their quirky taste, and the facilities, which are being energetically added to, include a summer swimming area, lots of sofas, books and games, kitchen facilities, a cubby house for the kids and a royally decorated dunny. You can buy seasonal produce like eggs, nuts and preserves from the property, too.

From the moment we saw the very stylish Frits galloping towards us in his clogs with the cutest little terrier Jangles leading the way we suspected we were somewhere special. Not long after, the gorgeous Debbie appeared and it was confirmed. Here on the Old Kaikoura Road halfway between Kaikoura and Hanmer Springs, this creative, interesting and very welcoming couple have created a campsite paradise. The old shed has been turned into a 50’s themed communal indoor outdoor kitchen/ lounge/ dining room. The sun was shining and we ambled along the river and lay on the grass breathing in the silence and purity of this place. Later... It was cold, and the inside fire roared as we shared a selection of Debbie’s European wine! These people are special and so is their place. With room for up to 10 self contained Motorhome’s make sure you book in peak times to secure a memorable holiday. Or if you’re lucky like us you might just pull up and have the whole place to yourselves! Thanks Frits and Debbie we miss you already! 🙏…

What a wonderful find this place is! Deb and Fritz are such fun, generous hosts, we didn't want to leave. Love Fritz's ever- evolving elega ntly displayed museum. The swimming hole over summer was fab, we picnicked til sunset then enjoyed a bbq with Fritz and Deb and wines. The fireplace in the shed was a great touch. Will definitely be back. Maybe over winter next time, when we can look forward to some snow.
