This was our 2nd stay at Peaceful Cottages and it was just as great as the first time! Perfect for the budget minded traveler who just needs a soft bed to sleep in at the end of a long day at the beach. This was our 8th visit to the island but our first time booking the same property a second time. The price is great, its clean and cozy, and close to town and the beaches too. We will definitely book again.
***Note to first time travelers, as a veteran of St. John vacations:
1. Always rent a Jeep or an SUV of some type, they have crazy driveways and crazy roads! But the views are well worth the craziness!
2. Download the Islandeguide app, it will map you right to the property and is up to date with all of the local restaurant deals (which is great on a budget) and local entertainment events.
3. There have been at least one, or sometimes several, of the following at every single property we have ever stayed at on the island, from the $60 a night converted sea container to the $500 a night ocean side home with amazing views: cockroaches (from baby ones, to ones I couldn't kill beating it with a broom), no see um ants, rats, gigantic spiders!, goats, donkies, chickens, lizards, iguanas, bats, hermit crabs, frogs, and I'm sure there were more that we just didn't see. It's an island teaming with wildlife, enjoy it, it is the beauty of nature! But you will also get to see wild parrots, hummingbirds and an ocean of amazing creatures!
We have only seen lizards, iguanas, chickens, and hermit crabs at Peaceful Cottages, which we can live with :)
4. There is construction noise during the day. They went through not one but two hurricanes! It takes time to rebuild all that they have to rebuild. But if you are vacationing St. John the right way, you should be on a beach, hiking trail, or out on the water during the day and there is no construction noise there! It stops by dusk and the nights are peaceful and you can sit out on the porch with the cool breeze and listen to the frogs chirping while gazing at the stars.
Thankfully we don't have read reviews anymore when we book a trip to St. John, we loved it and can't wait to book trip #9!
