Teresa and her family were so welcoming. This cottage had ideal amenities and was in a brilliant location for a family of 4 that included 2 children (age 4 and 7). There was lambing, sheep maternity and neonatal care to get involved with every day. There were walks straight out of the cottage door. There were nearby amenities with a play park in Alstonefield and swimming pool in Ashbourne. Very easy to feel like we'd left work behind us for a week with there being no WiFi and unreliable phone signal which was brilliant! We will definitely come back.

Fabulous stay!
We went as a family of 6 with dogs. Absolutely loved everything about this place - the setting and views, great farmhouse with everything you need but I think the thing that makes it so special is the genuine friendly welcome the family give you. We had 2 boys with us aged 12 and 9 and they were shown the farm and were able to feed the lambs one morning and even witness the birth of 2 lambs. Theresa and her husband and their son Sam were so lovely to them answering their many questions! Milldale was a few minutes drive away and we were able to have an early start on the walks to Hartington and Dovedale for the day. Having the garden and outside seating areas was wonderful too. Thank you again for a wonderful stay.

A perfect location for all the family.
Just back from a long bank holiday weekend with my family.
Staying at the Coach House Alstonefield. A perfect location staying on a working farm. Walks right on your doorsteps facing Wetton Hill and many more.
My two grandsons thought it was amazing being shown around the farm feeding the lambs, having a tractor ride & collecting fresh eggs for their breakfast. So much so they want to know when we will be going again.
The coach house was great for families warm & comfortable and a very e relaxing time was had by all. Can't wait for our next visit hopefully stop a little longer.

lambing live!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our second stay at the Coach House.We went at this time of year so we were able to see the lambing & help out where we could.The family are very friendly & welcoming.The cottage is comfortable with everything you could want - especially the lovely eggs courtesy of their hens - thanks girls!! Nearby is Ashbourne which is worth a visit,including 'The George & Dragon'pub in the square.We plan to return again & get away from it all.

The Coach House
4 night stay for 2 adults & 2 dogs. Very spacious and comfortable cottage. Teresa and her family are very nice and welcome you to their farm and leave you to enjoy the cottage and surroundings. Good location, very peaceful and close to lovely scenery and walks. Will certainly book again.

A great family get-away spot in the heart of the Peak District
The Peak District is beautiful, and this delightful little cottage, situated on a working farm, is the perfect place to appreciate it.
The cottage is lovely, and Teresa and her family are friendly and accommodating - they made us feel welcome from the get-go, and went out of their way to do so.
My daughter loves animals, so the farm was a big attraction. There was no shortage of opportunities to make the most of it: Sam (Teresa's son) let us ride in the trailer when he went to feed the cows and the lambs. In the morning, Maya (my daughter) joined in with bottle feeding the little ones.
The location is ideal, offering breathtaking views of the peaks and plenty of country roads to walk down, where vehicles are a pleasant rarity. Villages with country pubs and artisanal grocery shops are just a few miles away - we went for a very fulfilling walk and stopped for a (brilliant) pub lunch at The George.
All in all, I would recommend The Coach House to anyone looking for a quiet getaway in the British countryside, and will be returning next summer!

'Lambing Live in Alstonefield'
Had a wonderful week in March staying at the Coach House despite getting snowed in!!!
The cottage was comfortable & we felt quite at home there.
We were made to feel welcome by the owners,Teresa,Robert & son,Sam especially on the farm.We helped with many jobs - bedding with fresh straw,feeding corn & hay,refilling water buckets,assiting with moving new mums & lambs to individual pens & delivering 2 lambs.
It was a wonderful experience which we're hoping to repeat next year.

Perfect country retreat
This is the perfect location for walking in the countryside. Within easy access to all the local attractions and beautiful views over the valley. It has the added bonus of being dog friendly. Sam is amazing and showed us around the farm and answered all our questions without irritation. He even towed us out the snow with his tractor!!
Theresa is very attentive to your needs and is considerate as to your safety and comfort.
I'm sure we will be back in the future, maybe in the summer next time though lol.

Stunning location, bouncy lambs!
Gateham Grange is set in the most beautiful green and limestone location - with Wetton Hill and amazing walks a stone's throw away. We went to this working farm specifically during the lambing season, and Theresa, Robert and Sam couldn't have been more patient and informative. We saw lambs being born and helped feed them. Our accommodation was great - especially liked sitting in the back terrace for breakfast listening the the rooks cawing, chickens clucking and lambs baaing. A perfect tonic and highly recommended.

Excellent Cosy Cottages, Friendly Owners
Location is unbeatable - gorgeous scenery and numerous walks from the front doors. The land backs on to the imposing Wetton Hill which dominates much of the view from the outside. Both Gateham Cottage and the Coach House are lovely places to stay, cosy and comfortable. It is perfect for people looking for a delightful rural escape. The wifi is limited in most places other than the cottage's front room/ bedroom, and phone reception is sporadic and pretty much non-existent at the Coach House. But this just adds to the sense of escape and seclusion. There is land backing onto the properties which is great for a ramble and view over the valley, and our children loved exploring and clambering, even in the gale force winds that buffeted us over Christmas!
Alstonefield and Wetton are short walks (c. 1 mile) away, with great pubs at both (the George at Alstonefield is more 'gastro' with prices to match; the Royal Oak at Wetton is more down to earth and affordable. Both are great places for a cosy drink though). Further away is Hartington which is a delightful village with a wonderful store and a couple of great pubs.
Teresa the owner was extremely helpful and friendly and really made us feel welcome and her son Sam was excellent: he introduced us to the bulls and calves, talked us through the farm and took our 7 year old (also Sam) on tour of the farm and to help out with getting the sheep in, feeding the animals and various other things. Really lovely people who made a Christmas break even more magical.
Highly recommended, and we would love to return some time.
