We had a wonderful 2 night stay at Winnow Stables. The accommodation was clean, well equipped and comfortable; and we felt at home from the moment we arrived. The Farm has 2 friendly goats and a lovely cat - one of the highlights of our stay! The Farm is in a super location for Ilam, Ashbourne and the Stepping Stones. We'll be returning to Winnow Barns!

A perfect setting for a long weekend away
This was our first time away since Christmas, so it was a much needed break. We went with my son, his girlfriend and toddler. The barn was just perfect for us. So tastefully designed and spotlessly clean and Covid safe. The setting is so beautiful and quiet and far from the crowds. It was fun for our grandson to be on a farm with goats, donkeys and hens to look at. John and Andrea made us most welcome and helped us with local walks. The micro brewery in the barn was much appreciated.

Couldn't be any better!
I'm one of a group of ladies who meet up every year and this year, we opted again for the Winnow properties. I was in the Stables with three others and the rest of the party were in the Barn.
You just can't get any better than this. All the kitchen equipment is top notch (nothing is missing), the beds couldn't be comfier and the showers are hot and direct - hitting the spot, so to speak! We had a Tesco delivery for our supplies (other supermarkets are available!) which is a sensible plan to have in action.
We went for a day's outing to Chatsworth which is closer than you think which in itself was fabulous - the Christmas displays were breathtaking - and returned to the Barn for dinner, all set in a lovely cosy atmosphere; the wood burner (with provided fire lighters of course) chugging away at the heart of the party.
It was sad to leave this morning but you just know you'll be back!
Thank you Andrea and John for your unobtrusive hospitality, your fantastic micro-brewery and your unbelievably wonderful accommodation!

What a lovely place to stay.
What a lovely place to stay, quiet, no light pollution at night, views, walks on the doorstep, its gorgeous, just what you want to unwind. Super showers with a good flow and super comfortable beds, for which we would give Winnow Barns five stars apart from anything else, having had many holidays spoiled by old lumpy beds and weak showers. The barn, which is a beautiful, traditional stone building, is tastefully furnished, no old tat, great central heating and with everything you could need for your break, really about the best holiday property we have stayed in.
There are suggestions from the owners, who we found to be approachable but not intrusive, about local places to shop and eat, however we ordered most of our food and then collected it from Waitrose in Uttoxeter which is only a few miles from Winnow Barns, it made things easy for us.
You don't need me to tell you about the attractions of the Peak District other than to say Winnow Barns is right in the Peak District National Park, and it's a gorgeous place. We would recommend Winnow Barns and would not hesitate to book again if we are in that part of the world.

Great property lovely location fantastic owners.
Great property with lovely décor, great location and very friendly owners just what we hoped for. Barn is close to lots of great pubs (try the coach and horses in Fenny Bentley) Great location for walks surrounded in lovely countryside and central to visit all of what the Derbyshire Dales has to offer. Ashbourne is close by which is a beautiful small market town with lovely shops, cafes and pubs. We would recommend a visit to Chatsworth house and Chatsworth's farm shop also the small local villages in the area which are stunning. Finally if your not from the area try the original Bakewell pudding and for breakfast try the oatcakes at Friends café in Ashbourne.

Fabulous accommodation and delightful hosts
The farm is immersed in the stunning Peak countryside. The farm has chickens, goats, sheep and donkeys. The nearest village Alstonefield which is 5 minutes away and has a great pub, The George, serving great food. Ilan is only 10 minutes down
Winnow Stables is a great place to stay. The stables are stylish and very comfortable. The hosts couldn’t have been more helpful.

An ideal location for rest and relaxation in the Peak District
Winnow Stables is an excellent cottage to holiday in. It is fully equipped, very comfortable, cosy and quiet and our hosts were very friendly and helpful. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and there are lots of great walks near by, especially the Dovedale walk that starts in Milldale, a village near by.

In a word - perfect!
We are a group of ten ladies who meet annually in different locations. This year, we had booked all three Damgate Farm properties to accommodate us all and it worked really very well.
I stayed in the Stables and it was simply the best. The bed was so comfortable that I am planning on getting the same at home. The en-suite bathroom was just what I needed and although we didn't use the self-catering facilities (apart from for a morning cuppa!) everything was provided.
The entire set-up was what we wanted. Pretty much all of us had our own room and bathroom and everything is finished to a higher than you would expect quality.
The location was perfect. Easy directions provided by the hosts were beneficial (don't use your sat nav!) and we were spoilt for choice as to what to do. We settled for a walk over Thorpe Cloud. The less said about that, the better!
We booked our 2019 weekend whilst we were there. We will probably do the Winnow properties every year now

Worked Perfectly
If you want quality accommodation whilst visiting the peak district then look no further. The place is immaculate, equipped with a decent dishwasher and washing machine and good quality cooking utensils and crockery. The knives were brilliant, we are a hard group to please food wise so we cooked and ate in every night, so to have quality utensils to use was a godsend. On arrival there was a small amount of coffee,tea, milk, sugar, dishwasher tablets, 2 cleaning cloths, washing up liquid left which was really helpful until you could get to the shops to stock up yourself. The pièce de résistance was the lemon drizzle cake, funnily enough that didn't last too long. The nearest supermarkets are about 25 minutes away in Ashbourne although there are smaller convenience shops nearer however we did not need to use these. The owners live on site and are really warm and friendly people who are non intrusive but it's reassuring to know they are there if there's a problem or you just need some local advice.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay in the Peak district and was a lovely feeling knowing that you were going back to this cottage after a day out.
We would highly recommend this property to stay at.

Beautiful accomodation in a beautiful part of the UK
The accomodation is beautiful and well kitted out for a family of four. The beds are very comfortable and the showers powerful and hot, just what you need for a relaxing break.
Andrea and her family were very helpful especially to our inquisitive boys :-). The animals were loved by our boys, Boris and Chicco are sorely missed!
The location is beautiful with so much to do, a week was not long enough. We managed to fit in walks around Dovedale, Bunster Hill, Ilam & Thorpe Cloud. Bike rides around Carsington Water and along the Tissington trail plus days out to Sudbury Hall and Crich Tramway Museum incl many ice cream pit stops.
We love this part of the country and we wil be back again.

Ashbourne is one of Derbyshires oldest market towns combining historic buildings with a wealth of high quality shops. Lying in a stunningly beautiful valley on the southern edge of the Peak District, the town offers a fabulous selection of independent stores, stylish boutiques and many antique shops.
