It’s our third visit to the Knight’s Cottage and we plan to come back again! It’s perfect for a visit to the Loire. The cottage, though tucked right into Loches old town center, is countryside peaceful. It’s clean and beautiful, with a private and stunning large terrace and garden, with views over the countryside, an excellent and roomy bathroom, a good kitchen and great bedroom with windows that let in the cool evening air and the morning bird song. Christine and Philippe are marvelous hosts, you’ll be greeted with a warm welcome and any information you want about the Cité Royal of Loches today or its history. There are bakeries for a morning croissant and baguette for a picnic lunch. There are two markets with fresh produce and a wide array of things to bring home for dinner. Two traiteurs also offer excellent choices for dinner at home. And last but not least a local wine shop (La Loire en Tonneaux) that will provide you with the perfect Loire wine to go with your meals. There’s a good grocery for the basics. A handful of great, small restaurants within easy strolling distance specialize in the bounty of the Loire. You can walk off all the dining with afternoon or evening strolls around the Cité Royal or on trails through meadows and along the Indre in the park below the town. Loches is central to Loire activities and attractions, from Cambord to Samur there are chateaus, too many to count, big and small, within easy day trip distance. The driving itself is a delight along scenic country roads through farmland and forest (pack that picnic lunch).

Hervorragend geführtes Ferienhaus
Das Knight s Cottage ist ein hervorragend und sehr persönlich geführtes Haus. Das Ehepaar Rimbauld ist als Gastgeber nicht zu übertreffen, wirklich jederzeit ansprechbar, reich an wertvollen Tipps und sehr liebenswürdig.
Das Haus ist ein sehr schön restauriertes Tuffsteingebäude, das auch im Sommer hervorragend zu klimatisieren ist. Es liegt in einer ruhigen Seiitenstraße in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Schloß von Loches. die nächste Bäckerei ist 40 m das Zentrum, das zum Bummeln und Entspannen mit sehr angenehmer Gastronomie einläd, ist 150m entfernt. Der Garten ist liebvoll gepflegt ( Rosen und Wein). Ein Teil davon gehört zum Cottage und bietet ein ansprechende Sitzgruppe für gemütliche Stunden im Liegestuhl, einer Tasse Kaffee oder einer schönen Mahlzeit. Die Einrichtung ist sehr hochwertig, Es war ein sehr angenehmer Aufenthalt. Ich komme sehr gerne wieder,Vielen Dank!

It's perfect!
It’s perfect: a beautifully restored medieval cottage, a gracious terrace, utterly charming hosts, and while right in the historic center of Loches, it is very private and feels like peaceful countryside. Phillipe and Christine are not only charming, but share delightful stories about Loches both new and old. They clearly have found their métier and a place that they love and want to share. Everything is best quality, spotless and maintained in perfect condition. There’s secure (and free) parking within the walls of the property. Inside the beautifully restored cottage, there’s a full kitchen, including a large refrigerator in the lower entry area for storing provisions from the market. There is a large and sparkling bathroom with two sinks and very well lit mirrors, and a cozy bedroom with a comfortable king size bed. For your exclusive use there is a lovely terrace with teak outdoor dining table and chairs, and lounge chairs for relaxing. There are even a couple good bicycles just for you.
All that Loches has to offer is arrayed conveniently around your doorstep. As the town bells chime in the morning, you can step out for a three minute meander down a winding path below the town walls to a neighboring boulangerie for warm, fresh croissants and a dazzling choice of pastries, a baguette for the day’s sandwich, or a wide variety of rustic breads. If you want to cook from scratch in your own kitchen, there is not one market in Loches, but two: on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, the bounty of the Loire comes to you, just a stroll away in the historic town center. Enjoy dinner on the terrace if the weather is fine or by candle light inside next to a cozy fire. Or perhaps, after a pause for wine on the terrace, maybe you want to dine out at one of the many excellent restaurants scattered around the cobbled lanes of old Loches, followed by an evening wander around the chateau just above the cottage…
If you can tear yourself away from the gite, Loches makes an excellent base for touring the central Loire Valley. We always took the excellent secondary roads to soak up the charm of the countryside and villages along the way to any of the astounding number of chateau scattered around the region.

You are right, this town and this part of France is very special for history and amazing monuments, and our singular house location, in the medieval heart of town, maybe add to, this very romantic atmosphere.
We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay here.
Keeping this "out of time" zone is our constant aim when we restore a room of the house, to give each corner, a century tribute, from 15th century to our 21th( for bathrooms equipments or WIFI only) .
Thereby, one of our next rooms, on restoration, will be back to the 18th century, as a tribute to the owner of these times, who kept and saved the house (and his head) during the 1789 Revolution, with a funny and very clever way.... with his wife.

Excellent stay
Lovely gite within the city walls with fabulous views from the windows. The owner is quite rightly very proud of his hard work getting the accommodation to such a good standard. It's perfectly placed for a walk into Loches for a meal in one of the many lovely restaurants. Lots of lovely shops to browse and a great outdoor market twice a week. Loches is very convenient for travel to other attractions in the area. Lots to see.

We always make our best to offer our guests this special "secret" place to share, and this is, each time, so warmful to read sincere compliments in return.
You are absolutly right, we feel very lucky every day to live in such a location...not only for the beauty of sights, among the rose garden, but also for many others well living / being "local" reasons as calm, nice wines, food, and ...the market..!
Our ideal location in the Loire Chateaux starts to be discovered now .
As soon as you'll decide to come back, we shall welcome you with pleasure, and shall give you more to discover in our "garden of France"..
PS: For our next guests, reading : Please, don't wait to confirm your dates... these days / weeks, we received booking inquiries for next June & July (2016..!) .

Great location
This is a great place to stay if you want to be in a good location for visiting nearby chateau such as Chenonceau and Villandry, it's also great for being a 5 min walk to the town for shops and restaurants and the nearby chateau.
The house itself is very historic and has been lovingly restored by Phillipe and Christine who are only too happy to tell you all about how it came to be. It's very well equipped, nothing was missing that you could want.
There is a lovely terrace with reclining chairs and a table and chairs so you can recline or dine Al fresco under the hazelnut tree with the red squirrel rustling above you.
The house is on 3 floors, entrance, living room and bedroom at the top so probably not ideal if you are a toddler or elderly.
All in all C and P were very hospitable and helpful and we had a lovely relaxing week and we were lucky enough to be there for the Bastille day fireworks which were great.

Fabulous cottage in a beautiful medieval town full of character
Having stayed in the knights cottage for one week we would highly recommend it to anyone considering staying in the Loire valley. The cottage is in an amazing location in a fabulous old building. Full of character the cottage is very well equipped, despite its age including a dishwasher and washing machine. Siting on the outdoor terrace was a delight, looking over the valley in a beautiful tranquil garden.
The hosts make you feel very welcome.
Loche is a perfect location, all the key sights of the loire valley are easily accessible. Loche itself is one of the highlights of the area with its royal city. There is also an excellent market on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
We had a perfect week, simply nothing could have been better.

Perfect French idle: great gite, great location, fabulous hosts.
We stayed at the Knight Cottage (le Gite du Chevalier) of l'Argentier du Roy for an all too brief week in May 2014. The apartment is incredible, the description on the website does not mislead. We particularly enjoyed the apartment’s beauty and how well kept it is. Everything functions perfectly. The terrace is incredible. We loved being able to walk down a path each morning for fresh croissants and fabulous bread at an artisanal bakery. The bi-weekly market provided us with delicious dinners and picnics. Loches and the surrounding countryside is gorgeous. We used the location to tour the Loire and it’s chateau, and it worked very well for that. Philippe and Christine are perfect hosts. The only problem is we couldn’t move in for the summer!

You are right to precise that we are in the centre, it is so convenient for having the restaurants, shops, services, all at walking distance, from our very peaceful house and garden location. The town of Loches is , with all its pedestrian and medieval streets, fantastic, for that : a preserved gem of history, with a fantastic atmosphere.

Perfect stay
This was a perfect place to stay in Loches, close enough to walk into the village and quiet enough to park outside of the gite. This ancient gite had been lovingly restored to a high standard while still retaining its character. It also provides a outside space for your eclusive use where we often ate lunch or sat with a glass of wine. The owners were extremely welcoming and kind. We highly recommend this accommodation.

Great place to stay
We stayed at this gite in June 2014. It really is a great base to stay in, very comfortable bed, well fitted kitchen, lovely garden to eat out in. It was very clean and in good condition. The gite is a great location a short walk down a cobbled street from the cafés, restaurants and shops in Loches, which has a fantastic market on Wednesdays and Saturdays - and easy driving distance from numerous chateaux. Highly recommended for a couple.

We also thank everyday our choice to stay in that peaceful centered location ; it is so convinient here, and so much more comfortable to just have to walk, just few meters to buy bread and "croissants" in our fabulous bakery, at our street corner, or visit our wednesday and saturday extra-ordinary centered market, next to the house.
All of our gite's guests noticed it, and usually, always speak about it in their reviews, here on Tripadvisor, or on our guestbook.
Our very special location is a daily plaisure for us too.
The town of Loches is , with all its pedestrian and medieval streets, fantastic, for that too : a preserved gem of history, with a fantastic atmosphere.
