My husband and I were so misled to believe this place was wonderful but the truth is it is a complete nightmare. We COULD NOT stay here because of the filth and smell. We were never reimbursed for our two weeks stay we paid in advance but had to evacuate the premises within hours. Jim is a con artist. I will upload photos. The pictures and description that Jim Damon posted on tripadvisor were so total misleading. As soon as we arrived ,even before walking into the house, I knew it was a mistake. The outside was a mess with ladders and old junk near the front door. The cement on the steps were crumbling and dangerous. The pool was filled with leaves and the water was unable to filter because the water was below the skimmer level. When we went inside the house smelled. The furniture was very old and dirty. The wood on the armrests of the barstools were peeling and lifting very dangerous that could cause severe injury especially to a child. The horror was the bathroom!!!! I was not told, nor any description before renting Satinwood that the toilets were compost toilets. Jim Damon recently add composting toilets to the description on tripadvisor because he committed fraud by not divulging this very important info. The toilets were covered with a towel to keep the smell down, but it wasn't working. The hanging towels were so stain and dirty that I would not touch them. The bedroom blinds were falling apart full with holes and the bed linens were old and dirty. The pillow were disgusting. They were very old and smelled terrible. We arrived after 5:00 pm and I was in tears and visibly shaken. The representing from Cimmaron (the property management company) saw how upset I was and told us the contact the office but it was too late to do anything that evening. We tried to make the best of the evening with grilling but the grill didn't work and not sure about the stove or oven but didn't want to touch the dirty cookware. I called Cimmaron and was told because we didn't book with them they weren't going to do anything. I left several messages and texted with Jim Damon but no reply. We went into Coral bay for dinner and I was so distraught that I couldn't eat and couldn't stop crying. I am usually the eternal optimist. We were stuck for the night. I stayed up all night looking for other place to stay. I found a place with Catered To and we called first thing in the morning. Thank God with the help of Catered To we were able to save our vacation. Before leaving we checked the old rusty washer and dryer and they did not work. We took many more pictures than I could post of tripadvisor so if you need more to prove your cancellation case just let me know. Oh yeah, Jim finally returned my calls 24 hours later when he knew we left the property. He has not refunded our money. So we have to now hire an attorney. My strong advise to you is CANCEL NOW !!!!

High near the end of paved mountain road, Satinwood is a gem! It is in the Coral Bay end of St John (where the vibe is quieter and casual). We have stayed at a great many villas all over St John, and there is no beating the incredible views at Satinwood. It is off the grid with solar power, but you wouldn't even notice it even when using power appliances and taking hot showers. There is an automatic back-up generator but it was never needed during our stay. The composting toilets were never an issue - nothing for guests to do operationally, and there was never any odor or problem. Morning sunrises (looking at several BV islands, the East End of St John, Coral Bay, and Bordeaux Mountain) with coffee on the deck was a daily treat. The pool was welcome after hiking or a day at the beach. We met the owner (whose father successfully built Satinwood to last through hurricanes) on a previous trip, and he and his wife are delightful people and are very responsive to any questions or suggestions. We were the first guests after Hurricanes Irma and Maria, and while the destruction all around the island was distressing, Satinwood stood strong. The owners hosted a several emergency National Park and linemen personnel during recovery. We cannot say enough about this rental, and we recommend it without reservation.
