Located on a hill in Saranac Lake, surrounded by trees. This house is both secluded and located conveniently in town (within walking distance of the Adirondack Carousel, a grocery store, and Main Street, which has a ton of shops and restaurants). It's also a short drive to Lake Placid.
Our family of five fit in here comfortably, with four beds and three bathrooms. Modern amenities, such as fast wi-fi, air conditioning, dishwasher, and laundry machines are included (the air fryer was a nice touch too). This is our second stay here, and we'll be back again!

This place was a beautiful stay! The house was clean & well kept, and centrally located for all leaf peeping activities! Would absolutely stay here again.

We Fell In Love With Cook House
I'm from Long Island, but I fell in love with Saranac Lake from coming up here with my family, beginning when I was three in 1966. When my wife and I looked for a house to rent for a week with my 12 year-old son and our Labrador Retriever, we first looked at houses on the water but couldn't find a suitable rental. Cook House turned out to be a much better location. In fact it was perfect. The entire village is within walking distance and we walked everywhere from our beautiful base of operations on Woodycrest Road. My wife sometimes has difficulty walking, but the hills were not too much for her. The house itself is gorgeous, extremely comfortable and well-maintained with wonderful adirondack details. The Cook family has stocked the house with everything you could possibly ask for. I can't say enough positive things about the experience of staying there. We felt at home right away and didn't want to leave. For parents of young children, the Carousel and Playground are right at the bottom of the hill. For history buffs, the Highland Park neighborhood right above Cook House (along Park Avenue) is lined with beautiful old cure cottages and the Trudeau Sanitorium, which we also learned about by visiting the Labratory Museum on Church Street. We also enjoyed hearing the scenic railroad (and took a ride on it) but if they discontinue that, you'll have access to the rail-trail right down a short hill. The neighbors were very friendly when we crossed paths with them, but at the sae time I felt like we had plenty of privacy. There is a shady yard with a cheerful rock garden and a picnic table and a gas grill (which we didn't get around to using, nor did we use the fireplace - but there's lots of wood). The wooded location on the hill makes you feel like you're living in the world's most luxurious tree house. You can't go wrong by including the Cook House as part of your visit to Saranac Lake.

Lovely owner, sweet house
This is a cozy, clean, well-furnished, and comfortable house in Saranac Lake. We enjoyed our stay there very much for cross-country skiing in December. And when I contacted the owner months later to ask her if I'd left a book there, she kindly scoured the house to look for it.

Home away from home
The house was honestly more than we needed but we loved every bit of it! The 3 of us-husband, wife and 6 year old-all slept comfortably together in the king bed. There was a bathroom for each of us. We enjoyed the fireplace-s'mores- and watching movies on the flat screen. New Year's Eve, husband and I watched fireworks from the picture window alight above the trees on the lake blocks away. As a family, we especially loved the washer and dryer in the clean and warm basement-no scary spiders or dim hanging bulbs! We loved the cozy kitchen utterly fully equipped with tools even our own home does not have. We ate familiar food purchased from the Aldi and tops a few blocks away. Our son made a friend of a squirrel feeding him pancakes and popcorn under the evergreen in the yard. We saw three deer crossing the street one evening too. The location was perfect. There were no worries of being "cut off" during our winter visit. The roads were plowed and sanded and we stayed warm and dry right in the middle of town. Lake Placid is just fifteen minutes down the road one way and Tupper Lake-the Wild Center-is thirty minutes in the other direction. Snow tubing is on the other side of the mountain just five miles drive. The only downside is nothing against the house itself. The upside of being perched on the hill comes with the downside of having to drive up said hill to reach the cabin. The hill is steep and intimidating requiring an engine gun to get up. The parking pad, especially in winter, was a bit scary too. But all in all, this is the perfect cozy retreat for those who appreciate a rustic cabin-in a magazine-but really just want to be at home when they are away.

Awesome family lake placid ski getaway!!!
I have know the Cook's for almost 25 years. This getaway is very close to a great deal of winter family fun in both Lake Saranac and Lake Placid! We spent a wonderful ski in the New Year! The Cook house is located conveniently to restaurants, skiing, sledding, ice skating and Olympic Venue Fun! The house is warm and cozy with modern appliances and a mini-lodge and homey feel. We look forward to not only winter fun but visiting again very soon during the summer months as we understand there is a great deal of summer activities to enjoy as well such as boating, hiking, fishing, etc. Thank you again for a wonderful time!!!

Wonderful Stay in Saranac Lake, NY
I stayed for week at this property with a group of friends. The home was beautiful, lake views, charming decoration and comfortable.
The rooms were spacious, slept a crowd and gave us all plenty of space with three full-baths.
The kitchen was well appointed and easy to cook in. It had all the items that you would expect to find in your own kitchen.
The home and property was well-maintained and clean,
I would certainly stay again.

Adirondack adventures Just a Short Walk away!
The Cook House was the ideal base for our group's multi-day exploration of the adirondack region and all it has to offer. The house itself is warm and welcoming, with up-to-date décor and a true sense of the area's history. We prepared several of our meals in the cozy, modern kitchen and ate them in the adjacent dining room/living room which proved to be our central gathering place featuring, as it does, a lovely fireplace (which I liked best!), TV, and comfy sofas and chairs. The bedrooms were large and warm, with nearby bathrooms easily accessible. Everything was clean and ready for us upon our arrival and we soon settled in to the rhythms of historic Saranac Lake and beyond (Lake Placid, Tupper Lake). The cottage itself is within walking distance of attractions such as the adirondack Carousel (Have you ever ridden a black fly or a turtle on a carousel?) and the short-line train that runs between Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. I look forward to staying at he Cook House again in the future.
