Location:
Restaurants and shopping about 40 minutes away (Murphy). Wonderful road to get there.
Property:
Large piece of land, mostly wooded, nice creek running through. There are two buildings in the middle of the land, the rental being one of them. When we stayed in this rental, nobody occupied the other building ("barn"), which made it very private and perfect for us. Depending on the weather and time of the year, be prepared for bugs.
Services and utilities:
Phone landline provided. Cell phone reception non-existent. Internet provided but very slow (not sufficient for internet calling). We did not use the TV. AC great. Water supply: Well. When we arrived, there was no water. Make sure to get the detailed explanation of how to switch the system on. Electricity: Connected to power grid. We lost power once (thunderstorm, I think) for a few hours. Be aware that you are in the woods and bring flash lights and some food that does not need cooking. In addition: No power means no water from the faucets or in the toilet bowls. So, be prepared for that as well.
Building:
Spacious kitchen and living area with large windows; nice outside porch, partially screened. You see and hear the creek.
Bedrooms and beds:
a) Large main bedroom and bathroom. Cheap paper window treatments (cannot easily be opened/closed). Large enough bed for couple; mattress is okay, on the softer side. Shower with good pressure. b) Guest bedroom with two bunk beds as advertised. Mattresses of the bunk beds are quite thin. These beds are the only negative of this property that really bothered us. I slept in one of them (the lower one) and constantly hit my head against the top part of the bed when getting out or into the bed (I am not tall). Therefore, this bedroom is not perfect for any adult and obviously it is not well suited for a couple. There were no window treatments in this bedroom. Depending on the time of the year, it will be bright early in the morning. c) Sofa bed in open area of second floor. Low quality mattress/base but larger than the bunk beds. 0% privacy from the living area downstairs or/and the bedroom upstairs. Therefore, not suitable for couples either.
Host: Kelly was available via email and/or phone. She was nice and responsive.
Our take:
This is a unique property in the woods in a remote location. As we have no problem living the "simple life", we had a great time.
